I don't think this is accurate. With Path of Pain after you first complete it the area becomes completely inaccessible in the save you complete the area in. I have completed the path of pain a second time on the vanilla version of the game on another save and never gotten pure vessel at the end. The reason why I have pure vessel at the end here is because I'm using a modification to the game called POPPV which adds the boss at the end instead of the white guards. I hope this clears up any confusion. I even checked on the wiki to make sure I wasn't missing anything! :)
