8:42 it is pretty interesting the double edged sword. Do you 1 not say what drugs you're using so that people don't know about roids, they're less likely to seek it out because they're not aware, people work hard in the gym trying to create the best physique they can naturally. However that results in impossible standards where people think they just have bad genetics because they cant achieve the body of their fave influencer/celebrity triggering body dysmporphia and leading to people spending lots of money on "supplements" and "work out programs" that won't really give you the body they advertise. On the other hand if you're super transparent you make it clear the body isn't natural so people are less likely to feel bad about not reaching the super physiological body and they can understand if they do end up doing it how to do it safely (talking to their doctor and everything) on the other hand with more information comes more people that think they can do it, pursuing it, forever altering their bodies at an age they might not be fully aware of the consequences of. Not to mention as it's more normalized the beauty standard raises as well making the expectation be that you are taking something kind of like women with make up now its unthinkable if you go into work without make up as a woman when im sure hundreds of years ago when make up was for more elite people a "natural" look was more accepted.

Yeah you're completely right, a double edged sword is the perfect analogy. What if we reach a stage where have a super human, PED induced physique increasingly becomes the norm? I guess the most important thing is that we keep having conversations about it, and to promote the idea taht everyone is comfortable in their own skin, that they don't feel pressure to change for other people. Looking a certain way for yourself rather than to keep up with trends.

I agree that tourism drives the economy and thus they a more welcoming, however, from living in similar societies, I also think the difference could be the collective mentality in African countries verse the individualistic mentality I've experienced in Europe.
@martysana Жыл бұрын
I definitly agree with you on that! In general everyone is much more welcoming back home!

IST🥺🇹🇿!! Great episode! It's a beautiful thing going back and experiencing a country that was home for us growing up, it's really eye opening. I definitely have felt disconnected from my roots living abroad, having to remind myself over time that as a nomad, home is where I make it. That for me has meant finding ways to bring what I know as home (mainly through food and connection with like minded individuals with similar (yet so different) backgrounds) has really helped. But it's a shocking reminder that evertime I go back to Kenya I need to be reintegrated to everything, including knowing all the local prices again, these muzungu prices, aiiii! And everytime having to prove yourself indeed by speaking kiswahili, haha experience the same everytime I so back to Kenya. And the same in the Netherlands indeed, though your clearly show you can speak the language, there's a loaming doubt 🤦🏽 the struggles!
