I think Vienna should be the capital of the German empire because it was more influential at that time and it was still considered a german city...
@VolkZeitКүн бұрын
not after austria collapsed
@joshi1863Күн бұрын
With Austria and Bohemia inside the empire there is no way that the German capital is moved from Frankfurt to Berlin. The resistance in Vienna and Prague would be too heavy, also Berlin had no significant historical prominence compared to Frankfurt and Vienna/Prague.
@rittersportfanКүн бұрын
If the revolution of 1848 had succeeded in Germany, I don't think Berlin had become the capital. Berlin was a protestant city and it was already capital of Prussia. The big catholic states like Bavaria and Austria wouldn't have allowed that. I think Frankfurt would've become the capital of Germany for several reasons. Frankfurt was a free city that belonged to no major state. Both protestants and catholics were represented in Frankfurt and Frankfurt was already seat of the Bundestag, the assambly of the German Confederation. It would be only logical that it would remain the seat of the new national parliament and gouvernment.

i think putting religion over nation was kind of not what the revolution was about
@rittersportfanКүн бұрын
@@VolkZeit Religion or religious demoniation (catholic or protestant) was way more important back in the days than today. And even without the religious aspect would Bavaria and Austria never've allowed that Berlin'd become the capital, seeing this as a sign of Prussian domination. When the German Reich was actually founded in 1871 the situation was different because for one Prussia was much more influencial in the German states (after having wo the wars of 1864 and 1866) and secondly Austria wasn't going to be part of the German Reich. The Prussian leadership on the German side in the Franco-German war was unchallenged by the other German states and so it was easy for Bismarck to secure the Prussian domination and the southern states weren't in a position to prevent that. But in 1848 the strength of Purssia, Bavaria and Austria was much more balanced.

I wonder what "VolkZeit" is suppossed to mean. If it is meant to be a german compound noun, there would be an s missing, but maybe thre was another intention with the name. I like the video and the idea of this series, but I have two points of critique. On one hand, I find it a bit strange, that Galicia-Lodomeria would just be fully part of a polish nation state, if it is formed via a nationalist/liberal revolt, because the south-eastern half is (besides Lwiw) mostly Ukrainian (yeah, yeah, I hear the angry Polish rumbles) and I would not claim, that they had no own identity. Even though revoluions could trigger chain reactions, especially if they are successfull, it is highly unlikely, here there are no counter revolutionary attemps. Maybe you planned stuff like that for the next parts of the series, but no foreing powers intrvening is strange. There are enough historical examples, where even enemy countries tried to supress revolutions, because of the fear, that the idea of overthrowing monarchies spread, like it happened in your video (and also to keep a power balance). Anyways, I am curious for the next video. :)

so it actually is not grammatically correct in german but Volkzeit sounds cool

@@VolkZeit For a (current) German, who is interested in subjects like history and political ideas, the name sounds like something that is close to fascism and similar ideologies. Especially in these contexts, even though they can mean something more or less unrelated to these ideas. As I do not know your political or cultural background, I thought I better mention it, if it is unintended.

As a czech person i would LOVE if you would add some aspect of restiblished autonomus land of bohemian crown. Beacuse in real live there was really prominent czech figure named František Palacký. He was too invited to Frankfurt parlament, but he was more of a supporter of "austro-slavic" theory. (Peacefull reformation of austria in sake of unity and defence against greater threats such as autocratic Russia.
@OndrejTheHistorian2 күн бұрын
Plus during 1848 there was national uprising in Prag too. And there was this thing called "Slavic Congress" where multiple delegates from numerous slavic lands decided for example on the famous "slavic tricolour" (White, Blue and Red).
