Vraiment un symbole d'une époque où la France pouvait encore se montrer joyeuse, insouciante et pleine d'espoir en l'avenir. Bien sûr, tout n'était pas parfait, mais tout de même... ceux qui n'ont pas connu ces années ne peuvent pas comprendre, mais quand on voit ce qu'est devenu notre pays, il y a de quoi pleurer, si ce n'est de désespérer !

Non tout n était pas parfait: avoir le cancer c était être condamné à mort, la guerre d Algérie,le niveau de vie moins élevé les femmes encore considérées comme secondaires, l Urss communiste, Mao, l apartheid,etc....Toutes les époques ont leur bien et leur mal....Mais c est certain qu on ne fait plus non plus ce genre de film!

@@Lefab3470 Oui sauf qu´on parle de la France là........Quand au cancer il n´y aucune reelle chance de guérison meme aujourd´hui. On ne fait que rallonger artificiellement la vie de cancéreux qui recidiveront pour la plupart et les autres finiront dans un sale état. Enfin bref un bon gros bizness.

I had chances to watch this movie in a theater since there was a special project about musical movie genre. I didn't know what this movie was. As I witnessed this scene, I shedded tears in catharsis. The color, music, and performances were so grace and out of this world. It hit my heart straight. There are a lot of classic musical movies like Singin' in the rain, but I think Les Demoiselles de Rochefort is the peak and essence of musical movies.

I feel you man. There is a famous Twilight Zone episode called “next stop Willoughby.” The episode is about a guy who wants to go back to the past. For my generation it might be called Next stop Rochefort. I remember the women in my childhood, like the young boy Bou-Bou in this film, as the most colorful magical beautiful entities upon which my then very young eyes had ever laid.

Correct. 'Umbrellas of Cherbourg' is also a masterpiece but it follows much different convention. It's more akin to a theatre play that's sung than to a Broadway musical. But 'Le Demoiselles' is a perfect musical in 'Broadway' convention.
