That’s some sick shit right there. Even this many years ago those mando and guitar solos are next level.

Question: Why do people feel the need to add a drummer to bluegrass? Not necessarily saying it should NEVER be done, but still, listening to this, who needs it? And could it even be a distraction from such phenomenal playing?

EXCEPT FOR STUART DUNCANS' BREAK NONE OF THE OTHER 4 PLAYS ANYTHING REMOTELY LIKE THE MELODY OF LEE HWY . BLUES . TOTALLY UNRECOGNIZABLE FOR ANYONE NOT READING THE TITLE OF THE TUNE BEING PLAYED .AWFUL
@TheDoctor77 Жыл бұрын
That's called improvising. It's what talented musicians like this strive to do at a high level. Playing off of each other and inspiring each other. They challenge themselves and each other. They, unlike some people, are constantly learning and wanting to grow and know more. If you think this video is out here for close-minded purists who get fussy about change, then yeah, they are playing awful. But it's not, and they're not.
@kishintuchis4133 Жыл бұрын
NEVER SAID THEY WERE PLAYING AWFUL . LEE HWY. HAS A VERY DISTINCT MELODY , AND NO ONE BUTDUNCAN PLAYED ANYTHING LIKE THAT MELODY . HUGE NUMBER OF NOTES , BUT NO MELODY. ANYONE REALLY GOOD CAN PLAY EXTEMELY FAST AND CLEAN , IF THEY DONT EVEN TRY TO PLAY THE MELODY OF A TUNE THAT HAS A VERY RECOGNIZABLE MELODY@@TheDoctor77

Howdidi miss this one for a few years. Now I am completely convinced, as brilliant as Andrew’s songwriting and voice are, Emily is the power behind the throne. Wow!

No mention made of Christian Sedelmyer, second fiddler, stage left. Major talent, frequent co-conspirator with Andrew. So much talent there!

saw them do this on a Telluride Bluegrass Saturday morning about 25 years ago. This version is great but I'd love to hear / see that Telluride perfomance. Saturday mornings always felt special, low key, intimate, super happy :)

This video is the wonderful statement of the current state of bluegrass music. It's a highly improvisational art form native to the USA, and Bluegrass musicians of this caliber are among the best on the planet

I’m glad to start seeing some videos get posted from this mind-bending concert! I was above you in one of the balconies and the ushers were shutting down people taking video pretty aggressively so I didn’t even try. I so wish/hope a professional recording comes out from this historic night! Thank you for posting!

Jeez. I would think that at Carnegie Hall, of all places, the mic placement and overall sound would be much better. Here, the whole thing looks like a mess.

Just noticed that Sierra doesn't stick to a pure Mando chop here. With the limited instruments she's able to fill in for the guitar as well.
