Absolutely beautiful! Just bought one exactly like this. I am missing one piece and was wondering if you could send a picture. It is the cast funnel piece that is inside the hopper right above the chopper. I have the curved piece. I believe the piece I am missing will be straight.

I am restoring the same model press and mill as you. I was wondering if you would be willing to share the dimensions of the paddle wheel to me so I would be able to recreate it. When the press I am working on was bought it did not have a paddle wheel.

Did you first treat the powder post beetle timbers you used? (those little holes in the wood). They're very easy to treat to kill them.
@chrislegaux
@chrislegaux Жыл бұрын
This wood already had PP beetles when they were cut from the log. And, yes, they were treated after they were sawn.

Nicely done, and nothing broke lol. I really expected one of those two wooden beams to break, though, but they held up. Good job! Is that log going to the sawmill?

If a piece is missing how can a foundry RE-cast? Don’t they need the mold as a pattern? Please somebody tell me who is the foundry?

Great information! I'm in the process of rebuilding a Hocking Valley press from parts, so I'm curious about a couple of things. What type of paint did you use for the cast iron? And what finish (if any) did you use for the white oak that will be in contact with the cider?
@chrislegaux
@chrislegaux Жыл бұрын
The cast iron was painted with a 2 part automotive paint. The baskets are unfinished. Not shown in the video is a stainless steel tray with a spout that rests in the bottom tray. So the baskets are the only wood which the cider would touch. The rest od the wood frame is just some Spar Varnish.

For making counter-feit money? All seriousness aside, I'm guessing, wildly, that it's 4 making dies 4 a printing press of some sort. Btw, does this thingamajig have a diamond tip?

Is it possible to convert a typical South bend lathe to do this?
@chrislegaux
@chrislegaux Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can spin on any lathe. But lots of pressure is put on the bearings. Little parts like these not so much, though. You need to be able have a spinning rest mounted and you’re good to go. Speed (RPM) is needed, too. So the upper end of the lathes pulleys should be used.

I don’t use the ramps to get it off the trailer. Just roll it right off the side. 10000lb. Winch
