11 months later it has NOT blown away in the wind. Thailand is still trying to find ways to circumnavigate the double taxation agreement it seems . my friend has completely changed his retirement plans He has canceled a small waterpark for his wife's home village... Cancelled a work / recycling program that would have employed 3 young people ... cancelled the building of a huge dream house . He has heard no evidence that Thailand would NOT be taxing savings . The fact that Thailand wants to tax capital gains , even when in some instances ( primary residence is not applicable ) it is not taxed in the home country is nothing short of criminal in his opinion . Obviously he is not the same as most retirees who are more like cheap Charlies so he has much more to worry about

After getting a DTV visa, how does a spouse travel with the DTV holder?

I can believe that people want to live in Vietnam. We were there only one week (Danang and Hoi An) and liked it there. For me and my wife however those pretty places were not really what we considered places to go back to. It was nice, but not really better than where we live in Thailand.

DTV visa equates to 19500 baht for 5 years plus any cost of visa runs and/or at least 5 immigration visits for extensions. Marriage or retirement visa equates to 9500 baht for 5 years and no visa runs required. Considering foreigners dread Thai Immigration, they should offer the 180 day visa extensions online.

Make no mistake: if you qualify and get it, this is unequivocally the best visa Thailand has ever released for foreigners. It's stunning.

This visa is only available outside Thailand, and that is why MFA is the correct place for the right information. They are deciding if you are eligible for this visa or not. In this case it is highly expected that the immigration officers will follow their lead.

Got mine on the basis of remote worker/digital nomad. Has a nice picture of myself on the e-visa; never had that before (normally I get non imm O e-visa on the basis of marriage to a Thai). You need to apply for it outside Thailand in your home country. In the UK its 11,000 UK pounds in your UK personal bank account (no need to show funds in Thailand). You can move the money in, wait for a bank statement, get your visa approved with the statement and then move the money back from where it came. ISA statements are not accepted so sell some investments and move money to your UK bank. I am expecting this visa to be very popular and expect it will get harder to get in time so best get your application in before its gone! Not sure on the 90 day reporting; as far as I am aware no need to report. Be aware you may need to prove you have sufficient funds if you go to immigration to try and extend for another 180 days; thus best to just do a border run. Hope this helps someone out there.

I think the part that's missing about the mirror is they drive on the right side, so the mirror is only necessary if the left because that's where traffic might approach from if they pass you. Just guessing, but that makes sense to me. Personally, I'd prefer mirror on both sides 😂

Still nobody knows because nobody has been in on DTV for six months yet. This officer in the mentioned video is reading the law as he thinks it is right but his boss can think otherwise. Maybe they just didn't notice the mistake they made.

It can cost a lot more than 10,000 Baht depending in which country you apply. In Norway it’s 9800 Baht (3000NOK) and in Canada it’s 17,000 Baht (C$650).
@user-nj3os7hp1p2 ай бұрын
@@aeroAdvocate you can apply online, would the price vary depending on where you live?
@scottwillie63892 ай бұрын
@@user-nj3os7hp1p No it varies based on the embassy you use. Even online, you are still applying to a particular embassy and there are rules on which embassy you have to use when applying online. As a Canadian, you could PHYSICALLY go to Vietnam and apply at the consulate in HCMC and pay roughly what it is supposed to cost without a massive surcharge, but I'd assume (check yourself to be sure though) that as a Canadian presently in Canada your only valid online option would be to apply with the Thai Royal Embassy or Consulate in Canada's website.

The Thai Embassy in Ottawa and the Consulate in Vancouver are very picky and want detailed application documents. Friend of mine is currently stuck with them after applying and paying $650 for the DTV.

If it’s possible, I wish vloggers would always get information “from the horses mouth” before putting out any information. It’s not a race. We appreciate timely, but appreciate accurate more. Good video and glad this was cleared up. BTW, I have an LTR visa and it’s not expensive compared to the retirement or marriage visa when everything is considered. It’s a pay me now or pay me later situation including the multiple entries and hassles at immigration. 😊
@rickyusa10002 ай бұрын
To them it is a race. Vloggers have monetized channels, get paid by number of views and want to be the first to post a video on a topic so they will get more views.
@tvierra63582 ай бұрын
@@rickyusa1000 It’s a matter of integrity. These videos can have significant impact and certainly one video like this to a relatively niche audience will not make or break a vlogger’s bank. If it does, then that is sad.

I still prefer my pensioner LTR. I believe DTV holders will still have to do 90 day reports, leave the country every 180 or 360, and may have to visit immigration for an extension. I don't want to do any of that. The cost difference between the LTR and DTV, if you factor in the cost of extensions and border runs is not significantly different. I hate the thought of border runs but if you travel a lot then a DTV could be a reasonable choice.
