It’s true that trauma is treated like a badge of honor bc for so long we have been indoctrinated in associating womanhood with trauma & the medicalization of birth is truly an extension of that grooming process

Thank you so much for sharing your story. There are a lot of similarities with my birth story. And I’m also pregnant now, planning a freebirth. So this story really resonated. It also is making me more excited for my next birth, creating a whole new experience that I dream of. I’m excited for you as well! Hopefully we get to hear your next birth story!

Thanks so much Karma and Aissatou! Your conversation, stories and presences are so inspiring and deeply warmed my heart. I never was able to have children, but I practiced midwifery for over a decade in the 90's before it was coopted by the medical system. And then gave it up once the system got involved. So much love and gratitude to you both and all the wise women who are doing the real work and sharing it.

Enjoyed watching Rae and listening to your story. I had 5 traumatic pregnancies and experiences i can relate to on Trinidad health care system. You know all to well of some of my experiences when my son died. But I must say Sangre Grande woman's hospital are making great strides in bettering the way we birth babies

I'm so sorry to hear that you experienced such traumas in your births. Thank you for listening to Rae's stories as they are so powerful and need to be shared. Here's hoping that the Hospital mentioned is centering mothers and babies!

Really enjoyed this episode! I would've loved to hear about the placenta birth from her freebirth, and I still really appreciate the framing of these stories and the discussion of lineage

Thanks for the support, Elissa! Yes, I would've loved to hear the placenta story too, but I try to keep the flow really mother lead and let her share what she feels called to in the moment. Sometimes, I forget to ask about things as I'm focussing on where she's leading the conversation. You can always reach out to Cielo on Instagram to ask for the story. All her information is in the Show description. 🙏🏾
