I am glad that this law does not pertain to riding lawnmowers and walking. Riding lawnmower I just riding and not like driving a car or truck and it is not considered as a vehicle! When I am riding on my riding lawnmower, I wear Bluetooth headphones with the volume at 100% listening to audiobooks and sometimes I am texting. Occasionally I find myself hitting things (like my truck, workshop, barn, and trees) and running over rocks that causes sparks; if an on duty police officer sees me doing these things on my property they cannot have do DUI test, arrest me, and give me a ticket while doing these things on my property because the riding lawnmower is just riding and not driving a car or truck. If I receive a ticket for distracted driving my riding lawnmower, I will not pay the ticket and I will not go to court because it is illegal ticket and the judge(s) will laugh at the police officer and the district attorney for charging me for this. While on my property I walk with my phone in my hands text, talking, and watching videos, sometimes I find myself tripping over my dog who stops in front of me, tripping over rocks and walking into buildings, trees, my family, and pets. Sometimes I fall into my pond when I get too close to the edge and the tablet or phone falls on the ground next to the pond. This last Friday night while at a family’s house puppy sitting and I was suffering from a migraine with all of the house lights off, my sister called and asked me to get something out of the fridge; she had a waist high barricade blocking the tv room from the kitchen because she did not want her puppy going bathroom on the carpet, as I walked and climbed over the barricade in the dark house with a migraine, I did not raise my right foot high enough over the barricade. I fell onto my osteoporosis wrist and on my face on their wood kitchen floor. I cussed and my wrist hurt for several days. After my sister and her family got home, I got into my truck and placed sunglasses over my eyes due to the headlights and street lights and drove home with a low grade migraine. Once I got home I took more migraine medicine and 10 mg cyclobenzaprine and I walked around in my trailer to put away the food I had made at my sisters house in the fridge and I tripped on sides of the walls and corners due to the cyclobenzaprine making me extremely exhausted and already low energy due to the severe migraine from several hours prior to that time. I slept all night but my energy level was completely shot and I had to hug the walls while walking in trailer and texting my friends either on my phone or tablet. I have been fighting frequent migraines since birth that causes zero energy for many days. I love texting and reading books on my iPad especially as I walk and ride on my riding lawnmower!

The people that make these videos are devious liars by omission. They leave you feeling all those dead drivers were on cannabis, most of them were drunk! Also, the WSP did a study when cannabis was legalized and found that experience cannabis a users drove better than straight drivers! Wow, all the little omissions to support moralistic liars. That’s ok, nobody believes the government or those in authority any longer, their all such liars and there messy little lives show it.

It should be as easy as possible for cops to stop distracted driving. Entering info to a phone, text or maps are equally dangerous and should be equally punished. No exceptions. Do you love somebody, parents, child, family, significant other. Would you care what the person was doing on their phone when they killed the person you love? No you would not care. It needs to be "using the phone" not "Oh I was not texting, I was using a map, or Facebook". Doesn't matter, you could have killed someone. And parents, record your kids. Do your part to make sure your kid is not distracted driving. I grew up without Phones being something you did while driving, that wasn't the case until I was in my 20s. So they are not suffering because they can't use their phone and drive. Its better than them being dead.

When I used to drive, I used to text at red lights but stopped doing that when I realized it wasn't worth my life or others. Now I live in the city and can take the train, Lyft, or have a friend take me places. It's a terrible idea.

I can't believe the cop bought that "entering GPS info" line. People who habitually break the law always have a ready-made, prefabricated line of BS to tell others. Even if the driver was telling the truth, he could have crashed entering GPS info just as easily as if he was watching porn or shopping on Amazon or texting his friend. If cops are going to let people off just because they say the right thing, then there's no point in having police at all, because the most serious, habitual offenders will just learn to have an entire notebook of excuses memorized. (It makes you think the reason courts have ruled so leniently on what constitutes distracted phone use is so people in power can get away with distracted phone use themselves).

For all you non-motorcyclists out there, here's a little anecdote for perspective - I was riding my bike on a fast stretch of highway when I looked in my mirror and saw a big SUV only one car length behind me. It's 19 year old driver was looking down the entire time while texting - he didn't even glance up for a split second. It felt like he was standing behind me with a sharp knife to my throat. By the time we reached the next set of traffic lights, he knew very well how angry I was. He was such a pussy that despite his left-turn light being red, he blew through it to avoid talking with me about his reckless stupidity (no accountability). Was he texting his parents "Call a lawyer, I'm about to kill someone and get sued by his next of kin while I'm in prison for manslaughter"? (there were plenty of witnesses around). Or was he texting his equally stupid friend something that not only could have waited until he was stopped, but never really needed to be sent at all? But here's the most important question- Do you want to go through your life being a cowardly, irresponsible moron like that, just so you can send text messages at the worst possible time for your own safety also? (NOTE- I strongly disagree with the view that you should do nothing when you see someone texting while driving. Not only is TWD illegal, it gets people killed, including the texters themselves, and if you mention exactly that while talking to an offender - ie that you're looking out for THEM and innocent people, including children, not just looking out for yourself - and you can keep your cool while you're saying it, you're part of the solution and not letting other people continue being part of the problem. Looking the other way is as dangerous a habit as the opposite - going around locked and loaded all day. There's a responsible, self-respecting sweet spot in-between the two. If you think I'm saying that because I'm from the older generation, you're right. Now take a look at the newer generation and it's epidemic of problems from people looking the other way).

This was published in '14 and has gone exponentially worse since then. I see people texting on every intersection. Yes, every intersection. Look, I don't care if you endanger your own life while operating 2 ton killing machine. But I do care for my life. So, if you crash in front of me because you were f'ing around with your phone, you can pretty much be certain that I will not have any sympathy for you. Because you most certainly have no regard for other people's life!
