bless you at 1:18:19, also as someone playing in 2024, it really is shocking how far osrs has come over the years. Skills like runecrafting and herblore are so much nicer to train, its a fun look back. Great series to keep me humble and so I have something to watch while I grind runecrafting!

Another reason why itemization in osrs is so good, and how we never really get gear gated like other MMOs, is because the power creep from beginning to end isnt that high. A 65/65 with a dragon scimitar and basic dragonstone jewellery, d defender and climbing boots can reach around 5 DPS. Goes up to 7 at 99/99. Max melee at max stats can reach around 12-13. A lot of number based games I've played have you increase the amount of digits in your damage number about as often as you can get a 5-10% dps boost in osrs.

I do not share, but do understand on some level your "brain chemistry" issue with this game. However, I think you might have an incomplete picture of the game's design philosophy in a way that'll give you some food for thought. Let me give you an example. The cake item, which you can make with eggs, milk, and sugar in the game, is considered a "prepared food," which has been explicitly stated by the developers to be "one of those things we wouldn't add nowadays," essentially. Given the inclusion of bread and meat, you'd think adding "sandwich" type items would be a pretty easy add, but no, in various feature request denial clarifications, the official explanation for rejecting those suggestions falls along the lines of "we believe the purview of these kinds of things should be with modders and the community rather than an official addition." So, to put it another way, the design philosophy of Minecraft, at some point, started explicitly including the expectation of modding. Rather than simply tolerated, it's encouraged by word-of-god, basically. Of course, I understand what you mean by calling it a slippery slope, but having friends with similar issues, I find a fairly reasonable compromise is to only ever consider the addition of mods before generating a whole new world (after all, it's fun to go back to basics from time to time, and hardcore Minecrafters with that engineering dawg in them will typically relish the chance to iterate on their previous builds), or after some pre-determined stretch of time has passed (semi-annually, for example). None of that is to say adding mods to this particular server is a good idea; I just think you might be prematurely deciding you would not enjoy playing with mods is all. It's part of the game's ethos at this point, particularly since that's like half the reason they continue to keep Java Edition around (much to the chagrin of Microsoft who would much rather you pay for addons, haha). In a hypothetical world where you ever wanted to play in a modded server, might not be a bad idea to hand those mod choice decisions over to the longstanding users of this vanilla server, as they'd probably best understand what you'd enjoy playing without you having to get into the thick of all those "self-GM-ing" style decisions.
@Marstead5 күн бұрын
yeah and I HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE when developers adjust what they will and won't implement based on what could be the purview of mods lol. But that's a "me" thing not an everybody thing so I get it, I guess. Terraria's taken the approach of "If a Mod is suitably popular we will just implement it into the game as-is" and I prefer being able to hear the Word of God on that.
@thepersonwhocomentz5 күн бұрын
@@Marstead For the record I actually agree. I wish they'd add more things like that, "uplifting" the best content into official status with official polish and official levels of budget. ...But it's just not how Minecraft is managed, unfortunately.

the char fight is much easier post eoc. not because of any combat changes but because you can put the pitching can on your hotbar and spam the hotkey to make fires much faster/easier then during the rs2 era

That "Ender Ender" farm design is by a guy called gnembon who later got hired by Mojang. It works so well because you're out of range of the main End Island, so there's only a small platform for mobs to spawn on. All of the Endermen immediately aggro on an Endermite (small bug that can randomly spawn when using an Ender Pearl) trapped in a mine cart on the other side of the drop shaft. It's also built at the bottom of the world, which maximizes spawns because the spawn algorithm starts at y=0 and works its way up. P.S. A lot of the end game for lots of players is farming rare blocks for their industrial farms and aesthetic mega-builds. The game can really go on forever if you have plans for big impressive builds!

I liked the story of one piercing not, I didn't like the detective work since it's very handholdy. "Look, you still need one more clue, you can't deduce anything". How the char fight works: every hit you do deals damage equal to 100 X amount of fires lit. So, fast weapons and multi hit is the way to go. Char's book is actually great for some firemaking xp. Fill inventory with logs, drop them all, fill inventory again, drop next to the first pile, fill again etc. Making 4 piles of (28 56 56 28) logs (drop by putting the logs on your action bar near the bottom and repeatedly right click left click, or by filling a beast of burden and dismissing it). Then you activate the book and walk back and forth.

This game is just way too lenient in lum requirements, just 550 is needed for the last door, so you still had 52 lums to spare even when missing most of the optional sections and a whole level. It's funny that Ubisoft probably found the uselessness of such limits that they removed them completely from the last game 😀

One Piercing Note was really good. If I had time, I could do a deeper analysis and its an example of a thoughtful side story with a smart structure in the mystery. Every character was well done and its all so well done in isolation And for their first time committing to voice acting (until they didnt), this was a very strong opening, such that I really wish The World Wakes had this treatment bec that quest needed it so much imo I think the best part about this quest is easily the music. Every music piece tells a story and then when you see them together, it enhances the mood every character and event has

I think you'd appreciate the Deep Dark experience without Night vision potions. It's a great example of a game doing a different genre, specifically a stealth-horror experience. They do some cool stuff with lighting/darkness effects. Wiki-bait: Wool allows you to avoid or negate the skulk sensors and shriekers. Moving on or placing wool doesn't trigger the sensors, and a wool block between a sensor and a source of noise, or between a sensor and a shrieker will occlude the signal. Sneaking can help you avoid detection from sensors and the Warden. Swift Sneak III lets you sneak almost at regular walking speed. You can also distract the warden with sounds, such as throwing an object or shooting an arrow. Since it's blind it will navigate toward the sound.

never played this or never will, i respect that this video was made and was successful. I got outplayed here from watching WoW videos. What's funny though is that nearly every reference I've heard, 11 minutes into it is using WoW to understand it lol. WoW is nutty. Its too good of a game. It takes so much time to keep up. that's my biggest complaint. I just want to jump into Arathi Basin where everyone has the same gear and I can pvp and leave.

I have just one question: If I get an item from a quest, and loose it in the Wilderness PVP. Is it possible to get this item again? I mean sure, it might be my own fault, but to think I loose an essential item I can only get from a quest and can't get it back somehow, that might be a high risk but should be at least "fixable" through spending money or grind it in any other mean?!
@LeroyTDF8 күн бұрын
any "important" quest item can be retrieved again if you lose it within any reason. you can never get "stuck" in a quest because their are failsaves

It's a bit unfortunate you used just 20 minutes for each. Especially in the 3rd one you didn't even have time to check the more interesting achievements or finish the main story, so it is hardly to be considered "completed".

Ohhh I was really excited for this episode Ritual of the Mahjarrat is still a classic favorite but I agree. While Guthix Sleeps had more prep and buildup time, even if it was just for Lucien, who only had one quest prior, but WGS quest is arguably the centerpiece of Runescape 2 anyways and ROTM pays off all the other stories in a neat bow while establishing the Dragonkin as an existential threat (with a very surprising payoff in the Runescape 3 era) I am probably even more excited for the next episode. One Piercing Note is also a personal favorite and I am excited for you to eventually reach arguably the best solo quest in Runescape 3 (I know you'll see it next year)

This is a masterpiece, Marstead, thank you. I nearly shed a tear when you shared that Settled's swampletics series got you into OSRS. To know that even neurotypical people with happy lives are still to this day falling in love with this obtuse, potato-graphics game is so validating as a long-time player (who, admittedly, sometimes has doubts about his # of hours invested!). Your analysis is some of the best I've ever seen, and in the course of the 3.5 hours I spent watching enrapt I was not only entertained and heart-warmed, but experienced an ecstasy of clarity as you put into words so many of the abstract intuitions about the game that were lurking in my subconscious. You've even sparked in me a new curiosity for game design after realizing how philosophical and complex it can be. Thank you again, and keep doing what you're doing :)
