"...It's basically a loud PA system." If you weren't at sea with a gale trying to drag you off a deck while aircraft roaring six inches from your head are just aching to incinerate you and tear you into pieces, that PA system would dissolve your bones in a puddle of ooze. If your high school principle had used that PA to announce the lunch menu, you would have been crushed in the rubble.

I remember the air boss was somebody you never wanted to get on the wrong side of.
@thirdgen377 Жыл бұрын
One of my crewmen left a fuel bucket up top and he caught wind of it. I had to report to him with the crewman who left it (being I was crew leader, I was held responsible, justly so) and he said to me, after explaining the situation, "So, Airman, what do you think the right punishment should be?" I looked at my crewman and didn't say a word to each other and I could see he was nervous. And I replied with "50 push ups from the each of us". He looked around at his people and they all nodded and Air Boss says, "That sounds like more than fair. Begin!" My crewman later asked, "Why did you have to make it 50?" And I said, "Why did you have to leave that bucket up top?"

This old Army guy loves these carrier videos.If I had known 50 years ago what I know now I would have gone Navy. I'm curious as to what rank the "Air Boss" and the "Mini Boss" might be...O-3....O-4....O-5? Are they pilots as well as "air traffic controllers"?

listerone: I was going to ask about their ranks, but you beat me to it. In the Navy from 1962-66, but never saw a ship. I love all the explanations about carriers, and their crews. All the numbers are mind boggling. Thank you to all who serve, every branch, past and present. Must include civilians, etc.

Nice story about the Venturous but the first of the video shot, thats the Resolute. tied up in St Pete, south peir. Was the TCIC in 97-99. Our slogan back then was "Roach Coach" and "No party too large, no party too small". We seemed to get picked to "host" parties a lot. Mex, NOLA and even Jamaica's chili cook-off in 98. Had a great radio gang. @3:00.. 50 People? Only 50? Took me back to when we brought 300 onboard and put the other 50 on the Gentian who followed us all the way to PAP, offloaded and we all headed back to Ste Pete and Gentian back to Miami. I still have a copy of the message in my service jacket. Boat stunk like some ones underarm for a week, even after a full bleach washdown.

There's this thing on a camera called an iris. It's used to control exposure of the subject being recorded. It is your friend...
@patrickmurphy85683 жыл бұрын
subject way too backlit to have iris any good here (open iris for better light on person, natural light is going to be blown out), which is why always want to light at camera back. which in this case is most likely impossible. having an on camera light for fill would be the way to go (just to give some depth of field for some facial details)
@patrickmurphy85683 жыл бұрын
@John Snyder basic photographic / video lighting, iris can't control contrast ratio, which is why balanced illumination is needed (which iris can control), carrier or not

Yep, the Rootie-toot moored right were I left it, in 1998. Retired off that boat aka, "party boat", "Roach coach". Our ships crest that was on our shirts use to have flags that said "No Bar Too Far". Now, that could mean the type of bar you drink at or the one that would end your career if you ran over it. X-TCIC sends.
