I’m trying to decide whether I’m motivated enough to do my Volvo. I may just take it out and bring it in so it’s only 250-300. If I drop it off still installed they charge 600. But if I bring the board in they are half price.

great video. Did half of Camry headliner and pretty much 3/4 of Permatex can gone..so I started thinking why do you need to apply that much adhesive if the issue is foam backing? It'll degrade and the material detach anyway regardless of how much glue you put on?
@Reece.wilson23 күн бұрын
We find that if not enough glue is added and/or not pushing down on fabric to really create that good bond to the board will usually result in job sagging in a few areas almost straight after application or within 12 months.

Top notch demonstration. Would that colour be a match for the typical standard vy headlining? Looks similar to what’s in my vy but I’ve learned the hard way that pictures/video can be deceiving. Not fun 😅 I’m curious to know how many different colours were used during vy/vz, plus the variations with interior trim pieces. I would like to change the colour up when I do my headlining
@Reece.wilson25 күн бұрын
VY VZ only came out with two options, Light grey flat knit or anthracite black flat knit. The earlier models VX VT VU came out with the above plus also a light grey Velour option. So the replacement materials we use on these models is our #3 light grey Velour #7 light grey flat knit #5 anthracite black charcoal flat knit
@stediasse25 күн бұрын
You don't replace the foam? Does that make a difference in any way (sound or heat transfer, vibration noise)?
@Reece.wilson25 күн бұрын
We do replace the foam. The headliner fabric we use comes with 3.5mm foam backing, so applying the new fabric is the same application as applying the foam as well. You can do a recovery without foam, but foam hides any roof board imperfections, also adds a nice comfortable feel to the finished outcome.

Isn't the sag caused by smoking in the vehicle?
@Reece.wilson26 күн бұрын
I believe the causes are heat, age and smoking. Mainly heat and age, as foam products seem to have a shelf life, especially if the manufacturer used inferior quality products at the time of build
@larryskaggs396925 күн бұрын
As a smoker I would say yes.

Does the foam provide some noise dampening? Was anything added or just glue and fabric?
@TokinGinger27 күн бұрын
The foam does add some dampening but if that's your goal I'd invest in an actual sound dampener. Usually 20mm is thick enough. Unless your adding bass to your ride, in which case, id use 100mm deadener
@DAtneliS27 күн бұрын
@@TokinGinger Cool, my curiosity was sparked when I saw the foam removed 👍
@ReecesAutoHeadliningRepairs27 күн бұрын
The new fabric comes with a 3.5mm foam backing, so it's all applied in the one application. Add comfort feeling to the finish, gides roof board imperfections if any aswell

Oh, GTP Camry with gold badges, very rare. If you wanted to replace the foam, what would you replace with?
@ReecesAutoHeadliningRepairs27 күн бұрын
Those gold badges looked great on this one 👍 If adding foam to the door trims, I'd peel back the fabric completely, so remove door handle etc, and most likely add in our headliner fabric as a foam backing (as our headliner fabric comes with approx 3.5mm foam backing)

I think I just came up with a better solution. Try taking it out, remove the old sponge-like thing under the fabric, then spray some clothing waterproofing spray onto the inner side, and then spray the fabric glue on the hard shell it came on, and then just put it back nicely so it doesn't stretch too much or folds over itself. I don't know but I might try it since it happened recently on my 2003 A8 D3, and it's a bit expensive job for such a small work. I mean, if even if it fails you only lost a couple of bucks more.
