Was Jerry Lee Lewis in the building? Sounds like him at 2:05, could be RW. I know Jerry Lee Lewis also played this on piano.

My Great Uncle Bill Lyles. Looks like my oldest son. Both my sons have his voice and music ability. The music gene and blessing carrying on! Very cool to see this so many years later... My Nanny Grandmother (his sister) is so very proud I am sure!

Really wonderful, Ron. I come from a family who flys, have friends & family in Clanton and have spent quite a bit of time in Memphis / Germantown - on top of which the Blackwoods & Hovie, Jake, Chief and the boys sang the soundtrack to my youth in Atlanta - y'all feel almost like family. I'm tickled that you're carrying on.

I remember those days vividly. We moved to Memphis in 1952-53 and became fans of the the Blackwoods'! All of them! Ellis Auditorium in downtown Memphis was the place to be...north or south hall. Then there were the churchs nearby...First Assembly on McLemore where Jim Hamil's dad was minister! I have been following gospel music since then and it is not quite the same anymore! But, I have memories and that counts!!!!

The facts are not right about the plane crash.
@brandenblackwell91162 жыл бұрын
I noticed a few incorrect details too. My understanding was that the fatal crash happened before a concert, not directly after their final one.

😂 Wally Varner (PBUH) is (apparently) depicted (in comic irony) as Jackie in that the V.O. is saying Jackie Marshall when a still photo of the Blackwoods Bros. Quartet (with WALLY VARNER) is shown. Sure, it's a relatively minor detail and as much as anything I like pointing it out because I'm proud of my eagle eye that spotted this little factual burp. Hashtag I_♥️_THE_BLACKWOOD_BROTHERS_QUARTET!

To Ron Blackwood, I'm sorry to hear about R. W. Blackwood and Bill Lyle's death, they were some of the finest singers I have heard. Thanks for sharing your stories through this KZbin channel. I am a big fan of the Blackwood Brothers. Thanks.

Awesome song, I remember those National Guard Armory singings. I bought an album with this song on it when I was stationed in Korea in 1974. I still listen to it.

Sounds exactly like Bill Lyles to me. At 1:36 and 2:58, the voice sounds nothing like JD's. JD could sing that high but with way less delicacy and honey in the tone.

Most bass singers did this, most have in ear monitors now, to make sure they are on pitch.

Ron, so there is a difference between the Blackwood Quartet, and the Blackwood Bro.? I am 73, and only remember the Blackwood Brothers Quartet with James Blackwood, Bill Lyles, J. D. Sumner, Cecil Blackwood, Bill Shaw, Jackie Marshall , Wally Varner. I have a load of LP's that have other singers on them I am not familiar with I'm sure. Thank you for the reply.
@RonBlackwood6 жыл бұрын
All of those groups are dead, with the exception of Bill Shaw, RW Blackwood was the Father of Ron and R.W. He was killed when they were 13 years old, so I am partial to that group. RW Blackwood, James Blackwood, Bill Shaw, and Bill Lyles.....
@Nexar418346 жыл бұрын
How old is this group? It is not the Blackwoods I am use to hearing.
@RonBlackwood6 жыл бұрын
This is a group Ron Blackwood formed in 1965 and then in 2009 retired and gave to his cousin Mark Blackwood.
