I don’t think that the expensive bikes are the reason. They are even safer as they are mostly new and have safety adding features like disc brakes, wider tyres, etc. Also, In my opinion a few kmh difference due to equipment efficiency isn’t the key reason to frequent crashes, but is rather a mix of other problems which are present from old days of cycling but luckily didn’t induce any tragedies back then. And, sadly, I have no idea how it could be remedied without changing the specifics of the sport.

@@husarvargonai4846 Well for starters Electronic shifting disconnects you from shifting pulls. Second disc brakes give the rider a false sense of braking since the braking action is now in the centre, for many decades the action was modulated at the Wheel itself giving a sense of direct feel of the braking. For decades all pro riders were also mechanics of their own bikes, they had their own mechanics during the race but they were also aware of all bike hardware and could fine tune their hardware on their own if need be. Back to disc brakes for many decades all pro riders knew how to soft brake ( or tap braking) this is not possible on Disc brakes sine the modulation is not on the wheel itself, this braking action was super handy in cornering at higher speeds as you could correct fast corners more safely then with Disc brakes. But for me modern Electronics additions have made a disconnect between the rider and their bike thus making the rider less safe not more safe. As more younger riders go into Cycling I am seeing a complete breakdown knowledge of how their bikes actually work, they need teams, mechanics to even swap wheels now. Sure I am all for new tech and improve bikes but some additions have made a disconnect between the bike and the rider. I would like to see a return of 9 Kg bikes to have a much stronger frame and also better much stronger bottom bracket areas, reinforced Carbon forks.
