Okay, to explain things in order that you may have not quite understood: It was hard to know whether or not you did, so please, take this as just explaining, not complaining. The black and white plus the credits being at the beginning were intentionally spoofing old movies. The coffin was sitting in a crypt. Where people could not dig graves, or for various other reasons, they opt for above-ground crypts, or else cremation, or sometimes, floating the deceased out to sea. Thus, the elder Frankenstein was in a family crypt. It is a little strange to me that you seem to not have ever seen a crypt. Most graveyards have one, or the wealthy might make a mausoleum or whatever. Next, it seems you missed that he was taking a train from wherever he lived in America to Transylvania. A train. There's an ocean in between, I've heard. The foreign boy was quoting from the song, "Chattanooga Choo Choo." The rest, you seem to have gotten well. Good on you. Be well.

Gene Hackman's line "I was about to make espresso" was totally ad-libbed. It cut to black so fast because the crew did burst out in uncontrolled laughter. They tried to shoot it again but there were always someone laughing so they went with the first take.

Marty Feldman did move the hump around to prank the team and see how long it took until they noticed it.

If not you should watch it but 1 piece of advice watch it to the end of the credits for the last scene, it's because of Airplane! that I watch through the end credits. I've subscribed and if you watch it, I'll tell you a little bit of trivia about the person in the final scene.

Mel Brooks did use much of the original lab equipment to make the film more authentic to the original monster movies, that was also why he chose black and white film....I am not sure if he used the same sets, but they were definitely very similar to the original ones.
