To me the best part of this song is the melody played against a high e pedale note under the chorus. You should have included it imo; I always think a cover of this song without that layer is not worth listening to, and as such should certainly be included in a lesson. But many people don't have a keen hearing and as such would not even know it is missing. You are a great teacher and as such must have been aware of this omission. Would have been great to be able to pick it up from this lesson (I learned it of songsterr now). But I still appreciate the effort and often find you have lessons on great songs!

Hi @ireliaismyheroine5366. I know the part you mean. However when I record and edit these videos I do be watchful of time. If I make the video to long viewers don't stick with the video. KZbin has got more and more like TiKTok and promote shorter videos. As a teacher its hard to get the same recognition as someone playing a simple riff from a song. If I do see a song has a high view rate then I do try and do a more in-depth lesson on my Premium channel. I respect your opinion and appreciate your comments. I hope you continue to watch and support the channel.

Assuming it is Davey Johnstone ? His rythym playing is so good , with the use of 7ths, double stops and so on, he breathes melodic Life into his chording. Underrated , largely unknown giant of classic rock .

"I'm sorry, but I have a doubt. The original riff of 'Motorcycle Man' is actually tuned in Open G, and on the original recording with an additional half step, either because the recording was sped up during mixing, or Paul Quinn used a capo to raise it by a half step. This is especially clear in the chorus, which only sounds like the original in Open G, but also in the verse, which is played open. There you go! Best regards."
@GuitarMates
@GuitarMates 12 күн бұрын
Are you completely sure about that. I know they are tuned down standard tuning. Check out this video apart from me being in E I don't see a the use of a Open G tuning kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZ-6d3mln8uFn68. Then again maybe I am wrong.
@user-bq3gy7vg4f
@user-bq3gy7vg4f 12 күн бұрын
@@GuitarMates Indeed, you are right, this video shows a standard tuning, but on the album, I believe we are in Open G. It was very clear this morning when I was playing it, especially on the chorus. I can't draw tablature here, but try playing the chorus in Open G in the style of the Stones, and you will see that it really sounds like on the album. I could be wrong too, but perhaps Paul Quinn will be kind enough to tell us where the truth lies if he reads this. Thanks again and all the best to you. And long live Motocycle Man, a sublime piece. Michel in France."

I would be great if Paul would comment on the lesson. I know his niece did.When I do lesson I try and watch as many live videos of them playing the song just to get an idea where they are playing in the fret board. I also now use Moises for track separation so I really hear the nuances of the playing. I do know in the past I have been wrong, but what the hell it's KZbin. The main thing hear is that your listening to the song and not just opening a tab file and taking that for gospel.

Dont forget there are 2 guitars and bass adding to the sound. Its only when you can isolate a track that you can hear what is being played. Its not always perfect but it certainly helps.

@ Jeff S I sincerely hope you get to see this I'm 66 , one year in on acoustic , self teaching , and power chords were , until now , Mission Impossible . 😲 Age means there's a bit of arthur itis setting into my fingers and my memory , well , I have no clue where I left it ... So, not the easiest instrument to learn - BUT when I set my (fractured) mind to anything , I always get there . My eldest boy ( plays in a group ) has given up ... I try to explain to him I have to do stuff my way , in my time , at my speed . Which I do . You have no idea the mish mash of notes / codes / explanations I use ( a psychiatrist's dream ) for each song I've learnt . It's like hiro hyreg ... drawings on the pyramid walls - utter gobbledigook to anyyone but me . And even I struggle at times . I've digressed again , haven't I .... So , here I am , learning Quo's W-Y-W and this genius teacher says just put your finger across the fret , then slide it up . And I've done it - without thinking - and it sounds really good . And I suddenly realise I've pulled off a bar chord ! And I'll be bug urd , but it makes the WHOLE damn song sooooo much easier to learn . So Thank You . Such an over used phrase . But that's all I've got . And , here's the rub , one day when you're having a less than good time & life's a chore Stop and think about all the pleasure and enjoyment you've given to so many people with your guitar playing ( which Im sure you take for granted ) along with the millions / billions out there in internet land who have learnt valuable lessons in guitar playing thanks to your ability and generosity of time . Best Wishes to you !

It’s definitely nice to see a lesson up here for this beautiful song, but you are definitely missing something. It doesn’t just go back-and-forth between G and A in the chorus, it’s either Gmaj7, or Gmaj6, A,Dmaj7. It could even be Emin7, A, Dmaj7. Are you playing a version that Hackett does? Great to see a lesson on this beautiful song. And please correct me if I’m wrong, but my ears just tell me that there is Dmaj7 in the choruses.
