Would a direct support professional that works in a residential home be considered patient care experience?

Because PA's have not been trained on a specific specialty the scope, they submit to the medical board will be very generalized about what the PA will be able to do. PAs CANNOT perform task/procedures which are not listed on their scope.

Do you have idea about how international medical graduates can get into PA school?

I'm currently also having a hard time finding PAs to shadow for the PAs that I've asked has said no due to possible violation of HIPPA and insuramce. That i can't shadow them unless I'm already a PA student. Unfortunately i don't have any connections with any PAs whatsoever within my relatives or my workplace as I'm currently working as a CNA at a nursing home to acquire PCE. I do have a cousin who is a MA working with PAs but he told me that he tried asking them but they didn't allow it either 😢. I've also contacted some PAs on linkedin but they don't respond. Tried contacting PAs on facebook pages and even asked on facebook but yet can't find any 😢. It's a very discouraging journey at the moment for i can't find any PAs to shadow. Still trying!

Hi I am a Highschool student who’s taking dual enrollment classes but I failed my General Chemistry class then retook and got a B and then I failed my Trigonometry class as well but got an A. I’m going to a 4 year University and I really plan on being a PA but im afraid these two failures will look bad as I took them at a CC.

PA since 00' here, and with a doctorate in health education (A.T. Still Univ. 11'). You raise good points. I always refer to myself as Omar or PA Omar, in the clinical setting. RARELY, do I refer to myself as "doctor" (MAYBE, in a college class setting) and, THAT'S usually IF a faculty has introduced me as, "Doctor Abdul-Malik", or something. Going around referring to yourself by "doctor" , if you don't HAVE to, just seems....a bit ostentatious. That's JUST my opinion, though.

Great video, a few mentions. We do not focus on holistic care, that is only found in alternative medicine and some mental health. NPs have years of RN experience usually prior to becoming NP (not all but most). You can't get an NP License without RN license and we must maintain both. While NPs get less clinical hours. Its less hours total compared to PA, but more hours spent in one specific specialty (640 hours in mine, which is psych). NPs can't easily switch specialties. One thing to note is that, if an FNP wants to be hired as a Psych NP at most jobs or vise versa, they will be required to go back to school (minimum post masters) and get more clinical hours in that specialty and take another board exam in that specialty.

The average accepted number of clinical experience in 2,000hrs. Most NPs don’t work at the bedside for longer than a year. If you want me to explain the differences in education between the nursing profession and the PA profession I will. Just leave your biased uninformed opinions to yourself.

Hi Michele, thank you for the helpful tips! I am applying for the 25-26 cycle which opens April 24, 2025. Is there a certain period of time before then when I can upload everything that didn’t carry over (like PS and letters of rec) in order to submit on April 24/ASAP. Also, some schools post their secondaries on CASPA itself, right? Is there a way to input those ahead of time so I can have mine written out before April 25?

This video was so helpful. Unfortunately, my cumulative undergrad gpa was low, so I was afraid that my chance of getting into any PA school was very limited. I am doing well in my prerequisite courses post bachelors and I’m relieved to know that those courses will be counted in CASPA giving my overall gpa a boost! 🎉

Hi! I’m currently in undergrad, majoring in biology going the pre-PA route and my grades haven’t been the best. I’m worried that this will make my application less competitive than others, even though I’m a bright student, just a bad test taker. Let me know if you have any advice for my situation, it would definitely ease my stressing!
