I just had this happen to me yesterday. At least I believe this is what's going on as I haven't popped the diff open to take a look. I noticed loss of power to rear, but when manually holding rear center drive shaft and cup up against the diff housing it was engaged and would work properly. But soon as I'd let go it would go back to free spinning.
@arkyrc
@arkyrc 17 күн бұрын
I'd say there's a good chance that this is your issue. I ended up shimming the pinion after this happened again and this seemed to help. You might try this and see if it helps. Good thing is that these are pretty cheap and easy to change out.
@SteveNavarro-qc3vl
@SteveNavarro-qc3vl 16 күн бұрын
@arkyrc 100% thats what it was. Totally just ground to dust. I ended up buying a couple extra pinions incase this happens again. Does the shim go on out side between diff case and drive cup? Or on inside between pinion and bearing?
@arkyrc
@arkyrc 15 күн бұрын
@@SteveNavarro-qc3vl I placed the shim between the diff pinion and the bearing. This created more contact between it the ring gear. It even sounds different after installing the shim. I used a traxxas teflon spacer and it seems to be the correct thickness that I needed. You just don't want it too tight. The link below is to another video I did after I installed the shim. It might help.... Unfortunately I didn't record the installation of the shim when I repaired it trackside! Good luck and Merry Christmas! kzbin.info/www/bejne/fYXcf6x7jpaeZ5I

I’ve been rebuilding my old Tamiya Grasshopper, upgrading it step by step. Originally, it had the stock 380 motor, smooth tires with no real grip, and basic bushings. Here’s what I’ve done so far to bring it to life: Swapped out the old motor for a Tamiya GT-Tuned 540 Motor for more speed and power. Upgraded to a Hobbywing 1060 ESC to handle the new motor. Added a Voltz 7.2V 3000mAh NiMH battery for longer runtimes. Replaced the stock bushings with 1150 metal ball bearings for smoother performance. Fitted a Power HD LW20 Waterproof Metal Gear Servo for precise steering. Next up, I’m thinking of a lime green paint job with some custom stickers, and my favorite number ‘11’ on the front. I might also swap out the rear tires for something grippier like the Tamiya Super Grippers but keep the front ones as they are for now. This build is meaningful to me, I promised myself I’d have one of these when I was a kid but never got one. I’m 45 now, building it properly while my 3-year-old son has the ready-made Hornet. I’m re-kitting this Grasshopper in front of him, and it’s as much about learning as it is about sharing the experience with him. Future Tweaks to Make It Even Faster (Without Destroying It): 1. Pinion Gear Upgrade: Fit a slightly larger pinion gear for a little more top speed, but don’t go too big or you’ll stress the gearbox. 2. Oil-Filled Shocks: Swap to Tamiya CVA Oil Shocks for better stability and handling at higher speeds. 3. Modern Grippier Tires: Fit Pro-Line Dirt Hawg 2.2 rear tires on 2.2 wheels for more traction and control. 4. Higher Capacity Battery: A 5000mAh NiMH battery for even longer runtimes. 5. Brushless System (Optional): Later on, you could upgrade to a 13.5T brushless motor and ESC combo for insane speed, but you’d need to reinforce the gearbox first. It’s a build I’m proud of, and I’m learning as I go. This Grasshopper is going to fly, and there’s still room to tweak it further down the line! I know it all sounds pointless but I'm challenging myself in pimping this thing up turn it into the Grasshopper I think it's meant to be. Thanks for the video mate You have a new subscriber

@@beta5033 RPM gearbox which allows for rear toe in. This really helps the car hook up. A hobbywing sensorless esc/motor combo (4000kv), and adjustable camber links....that's it. Gearbox internals are all stock. Oh, I recently swapped out the front bulkhead to an aluminum one I had laying around just for a little added weight in the front. This is probably not needed though but it does look cool. Thinking about trying out aluminum front hubs. Im always bending the kingpins...thinking the aluminum ones may help prevent that. I'm not a huge fan of aluminum parts though..these cars need to flex some to prevent breakage. This is probably all I'll do with upgrades. It's a Rustler and it doesn't make sense to overspend on it.
