Sounds great Joel! Wonderful playing on the lap steel and all. This song goes in and out of sounding a bit familiar.? Is it original? I love that beat too.

Well done in general! Thanks for your reaction. You really have the pedal steel in mind. I'm more into slants, and try to avoid open strings. They're too straight for me, not "alive" ( maybe due to my cheap instrument😏).

Joel - I cannot understand why you have only 56 views when, at least in my opinion, there seem to be inferior versions of "Sand" on You Tube with over 1,000 views! Whatever, I think you made some very nicely played improvisations of the music. Query: Is your top string tuned to high G or E? If it's E, then I assume that you're actually tuned to A minor 6th rather than D11th, G being the 11th note of the chord? Very much enjoyed.
@joelkatzhawaiiansteelguita91213 жыл бұрын
Aloha Stan, I am glad you liked my video. I normally tune my instrument in a standard C6 on the middle 6 strings. I add a high G and a low Bb. On this version in D, I tuned the middle G down to F#. This gives me the nice 9th chords in a straight bar. When I stay in regular C6 I have to do the 9th chords with a split slant on strings 2,3, and 5, with the 5th string one fret lower.
@stanthesteelguitarman82283 жыл бұрын
Many thanks for your reply, Joel. That's what I thought you must have done! Yes, I've gone through exactly the same problems in C6th myself to play those glorious 9th chords!! Aloha and very best wishes.@@joelkatzhawaiiansteelguita9121
@jerryderr80432 жыл бұрын
@@joelkatzhawaiiansteelguita9121 Thank you for spelling it out here Joel but I'm still a little lost. Could you write down from high to low or low to high, the 6 string tuning for D11? It sounds a lot like Open D so I'm thinking I won't have to change much on my Weissenborn. Thank you!
@joelkatzhawaiiansteelguita91212 жыл бұрын
@@jerryderr8043 When I use a 6 string I still use the high G. I would just tune the lower G to F# for this song. High to Low would be G E C A F# E
