Hey, friend, did you know that life is larger that you? That you could actually be happy for once if you just, ya know, weren’t a worthless ✨waste of oxygen!✨oh right I forgot that you only care about yourself and haven’t grown past the 7th grade. Anyways, grow up.

Honestly, I think it's impossible for a website to make enough money to support its server costs without stooping to shady dealings anymore. Like past a very small size, it just isn't feasible. The only places that survive are the ones owned by massive companies or very immoral ones (generally both) for these reasons. Without a good model for how a website can generate money ethically, there's no way out when server costs can get so high for any site that hosts user submitted content. It's done. I can see how we go back to individual sites that all link to each other for certain topics spread by word of mouth, but idk if anyone cares enough anymore

I’d get real familiar with the plot of the Ready Player One movie, because that’s exactly where we’re headed (if climate change doesn’t destroy the power grid and make all silicon-technology problems a moot point).

I recently felt I'd wasted the last 15 years of my life by trying to soak up as much information from the internet as possible to learn as much as possible since I could just find that information whenever I wanted but perhaps this was not a waste if the internet dies from greed, but perhaps this is just the death of internet 2.0 which tbh has been terrible. Maybe we could revert back to internet 1.0's wild west with the lessons we learned from the failed internet 2.0

I've been saying for a while now that an internet that depends on advertisements can only go this direction. We've developed a gag-reflex for paid services and companies will do *anything* to ensure they stay profitable; a combination that can only result in a contentless void that desperately seeks to keep your eyes on advertisements and minimizes your access to anything other than advertisements.

Its like the coming collapse of the games industry. Video games won't go away neither will the internet it just won't be an industrialized, comodified, nightmare of special interest and shareholder primacy.

Suggestion: Calm down with the noise reduction in your audio. The way I do it is: Step 1: Voice Isolation. Step 2: In any audio software, even a video editor, stack the voice isolated version on top of the original version. Step 3: Make the original version quieter. Makes your voice louder, without any distracting artifacts.

Your crticism of X only discredits yourself. Your claim that the video is about the downfall of the internet, which twitter was the breeding grounds for btw. Then claim X is bad cause the corrupt advertsiers dont support free speech. You could not have made your point any worse. besides the reddit API loss blew up - while the twitter api loss didn't even make the nws.

can p2p be used to reliably host evergreen content, but instead of dealing with big HTML files that quickly adds up in RAM or hard drive space, maybe it could trade files that instruct the making of HTML files (like a dense representation)? idk i was thinking something like in carykh's video (7:34 ; kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZSag5yEnK17l6c)

So... Twitter and Reddit are just supposed to operate at a loss in the millions every year? So... are 2 year old Google accounts really the "crux of your online identity" if you don't use them for 2+ years? They're also somehow _ethically_ responsible for storing every users data forever? They are businesses. Google and Twitter are not a branch of government that adheres to and is in selfless service to and of the public. This video is closeted fearmongering. Honestly... ask any sensible person if a company should continue losing millions of dollars each year to try and take some moral high ground and run themselves into the ground or if they should strike the best balance they reasonably can between providing a public service and profit. This video is 11 months old so depending on the circumstances when this video was written, recorded, edited, etc, I can understand where some of the frustration is coming from about paywalling API access. It sucks. But keeping those access points open despite insane volume of exploitation undermines the mission and sustainability of the business. Oh no, Reddit is closing API access so people can't write a GUI wrapper for the entire service and piggyback off reddit's infrastructure to make an alternative? Twitter is paywalling API access so people can't infinitely scrape Twitter data and post it everywhere else on the internet? Can't see embedded tweets in Discord because it would cost Discord money for Twitter's API usage? Must be the end of the world. Twitter, Reddit, Google, Discord... all providing super high impact content and features for $0 up front, with features you can optionally pay for. They want to start turning a profit (or in some cases just lose a few million _less_ then they did the years prior) so they cut off the most excessively exploited part of their respective platforms? And now they're the bad guys because they don't want to lose millions of dollars each year? This video is just lunacy and fearmongering.

You make a fundamental error, wich is the same error the futurists made, technique is not a means to an end in the hands of man, technique is the system in wich humans live and they belong to technique and are used like any other resource in the technical-industrial system, like steel, oil and everything else. Technique is the greatest event in all of recorded human history yet it is the most misunderstood phenomena ever, you need to read Jacques Ellul "The Technological Society" to understand it. It will open your eyes, that's the real redpill.

I've been using the internet for almost 20 years and I think the internet as we know it today will die. AI generated content will take over, fake news and hate speech will rise, eventually leading to the collapse of the corperate internet. I don't think the internet will end at some point, new protocols and APIs are already here for people to make the internet their personal space again without having to fear to be shut down by a singular company once it runs out of money. Putting people in charge of the internet was the very idea of the internet to begin with, now everyone took convenience over ownership and today you can feel the result of that. You don't own your games, your music, your movies and most importantly your own data. If you as a person want to change big corperations trying to eat up all internet traffic on their own just get a mini computer, host a Gemini capsule and a Matrix server and you'll be prepared if just another company makes decisions against your will. Also I heard piracy is a great start to tell the likes of Ubisoft and EA that you're not interested and along that you could try and start supporting indie developers or go even as far and use a Playdate as your only gaming device. That level of internet freedom and disconnect is a real goal that can be achieved, it's just something you want.

and this is why i urge people to take up html. you don’t even need a domain to use it, you can create pages on notepad and open them offline. but learning how to create the basic skeleton of a website, and finding communities that offer those resources for free (hello neocities users) will open up the web for you. it’s way easier to avoid paywalls and ads and stupid site designs when you can hop into inspect element and change it yourself. try to make a silly little webpage dedicated to your favourite film, or anything small like that. the internet will never be reclaimed by passive whiners. get out there and make things.

This is why I went open source, I completely blocked google from my PC, I replaced all my apps with open source alternatives and I use Arch btw. The only place I still use google is on my phone, with this gmail account. I don't even use gmail as my real email anymore. I will fight to stay open source, there's no way I am returning to that trash. I encourage you to rebel against all of tgis and do the same. (You don't need to use Arch, use something like Fedora, Ubuntu or Mint, you will find that Linux is actually very user friendly these days) Here are a few misconceptions about Linux: Gaming doesn't work: No, with steam's proton, almost all games run as if they are native. Linux is not ready: I don't even know what you mean by that and Linux have existed before Windows or Mac OS and was first to add many features. Linux is hard: No, not anymore, it can take a while to adapt to a new OS, but it's not that hard, just do it. Windows has more apps and support: No, Linux actually has a lot more apps and project, at least 90% of them are open source and you will find that many, like LibreOffice, are endlessly better than whatever proprietary nonsense you use.
