thanks for being brutally honest😁. You sure don't mince your words. I can tell you had a hard time saying what you thought of Samyang, but you said it. kudos to you. Image quality doesn't factor in when the video is out of focus.

Hola hermano. Yo grabo “talking head” videos in my studio as a full time job. And I’ve been using the FX3. But I feel like I should upgrade at some point. So, should I get the FX6 or the C400? What I like about the Sony lineup is the e crispiness and details. But I feel like I’m missing the amazing color science of the canon cameras. Cual tu crees que deba comprar? En cuanto a lentes no me preocupa porque no tengo muchos

Muy buena pregunta! I own both FX3 and FX6 and to be truly honest I always gravitate more towards the FX3 because is more versatile! About the color science you are and you aren’t missing the color science because you can get pretty amazing stuff in Slog3. So to answer your question FX3 or C400 on paper because I haven’t played with the C400 yet the C400 is better (Triple Native ISO, internal ND, all the IO is in camera) if lenses is not an issue then C400 because honestly you own an FX3. 4:2:0 is not 8 Bit that’s a Chroma Subsampling. Did you know that 8 Bit has 4:2:2 and 4:2:0 just like 10 Bit has 4:2:2 and 4:2:0. Chroma Subsampling is how the sensor processes colors. And if you payed attention to my settings it Will tell you that the recording is 10 bits. Computers handle 4:2:0 better than 4:2:2 with H.265 files unless you are doing VFX work or really heavy manipulation of colors in your footage your eyes will not tell the difference between 4:2:2and 4:2:0

it's about 60 grams heavier than the Tamron... that is to say, nothing. Nobody else has suggested focusing is a problem -- Christopher Frost seems to say it's good. As for the lens tube slowly extending when inverted, you can lock it but I am wondering why that would be a big problem (lots of lenses do that). That all said, I'm thinking the Tamron is probably better, based on what I have heard.

Well actually a lot of people had issues with the focusing, and I know everyone is saying well you needed to do a firmware update ok I agree with that but what I don’t agree with is buying a separate device after I spent more than a thousands dollars to make it work. My Tamron is more expensive but the user experience has been better (no need to update, it worked straight out of the box) it focuses way better in my opinion and in all the weddings I have use my Tamron I had zero issues. Perhaps I had a bad copy but that my opinion about the lens the user experience was horrible

How has tamron treated you in low light? I recently got a 28 to 75 tamron, and it has a rough time focusing in low light

Hey so here’s the thing 35-150 and 28-75 are in completely different technology times, let me explain 35-150 has better AF technology way better than what was released when the 28-75 came out. So to answer your question till this day zero issues in low light environments. I’m very happy with that lens probably the best overall lens.

Very true. Many artists think about the art first and money second. We forget that we are running a business. In the KZbin world, where almost every brand is pushing filmmakers to promote their products as if they’re the only way to improve their business, it’s completely wrong. Get your first gig, rent the gear, and then decide if this is something you want to do in the long run before pouring so much money into gear.

There are provisions to update lens firmware through Lumix cameras, including aftermarket ones.

Yeah I didn’t had that option for Sony. You have to buy a separate adaptor to update the lens I’m already over 1,000 for this lens, why do I need to buy something else extra just to update it.

Actually no, I tested this lens in two full day weddings. And yes is my opinion on the lens based on testing it in real scenarios but again key point here "My opinion"

Interesting... Nobody in the comments has this lens on any PANASONIC bodies.. Samyang is in the L-Mount alliance, I'm sure on Panasonic bodies they have the lens and AF dialed ! I might have to try it..

I’ve found the AF (photo) difficult on my LUMIX bodies in the 1 month that I’ve used it. Noticeably less reliable than the Sigma and Panasonic lenses I have.

Yeah by the time it came out L mount I guess they fixed the issues. Perhaps I had a bad copy but that doesn’t take away the bad experience I had with the lens 😉

I love this video, my issue with this lens is that when I change to MF from AF the lens just bug and the camera stop recording (like removing the lens )then it make a reset and they work (maybe)

It's been years that Samyang has a very bad Quality Control. Lots of primes and zooms copies have defects, even the latest ones. Some are spotted by the reviewers, some are ignored because they were sent the best possible copy by the brand. I owned the 35mm f1.4, 45mm f1.8, 75mm f1.8 and still have today the 135mm f1.8. I used to like Samyang, but you realize one day that it's a lotery. A funny fact, is that I have been using for years the famous 75mm f1.8 that was very nice. And that's when I had to take group photos at a wedding last year that I discovered the lens was decentered. And then when you browse the internet you understand that you are not an isolated case. So yeah I can confirm that it is really unprofessionnal to sell random quality lenses over 1K$ !

Surely, before you do a review, you check out stuff like whether a f/w upgrade is or isn't needed which in this case that lens needed? You now cannot present an unbiased review after a f/w upgrade as it is likely that you would have to try and justify your original opinion, rightly or wrongly. For clarity, I do not own the Samyang or any other 35-150mm

I can agree and disagree with that on the fact that this my experience with the lens and I’m talking about how it was for me. I can agree on the firmware update but let me ask you this: Do you think is fair to the consumer to need to buy an extra device to make something work that you paid more than 1,000 dollars for? Overall it was a bad experience for me the user and that’s what I’m saying here

An item should be fully fit for purpose from purchase and any further purchase should be to enhance user experience, not assist bvasic operation but this is 2024 i'm afraid 😞.
