Fantastic Video. This must be either KLM or Lufthansa, as they fly into Quito every day. I permanently moved to Ecuador the day the new Mariscal Sucre Airport opened. As you can see it was wide open territory. No more. The airport now has its own little city around it. And pilots no longer have to sit a jumbo jet down in the midst of skyscraper buildings and Volcan Pichincha. That old airport is now a park. The almost 10 year old airport has won all sorts of awards each year. I only hope it stop expanding, as it is one of the easiest airports to get around. And all those large white buildings you see from the air, that is Ecuador's plant trade. Ecuador is I believe the second biggest exporter of plants, mostly roses. In Ecuador, 2 dozen roses costs $1.50.. This airport also have several great restaurants. You will love our airport and our country. We have the nicest people in the World.

Ron: What aircraft and what in 'ILS Z 36' what is the 'Z'? Thanks!

The aircraft is a Boeing 777, if I recall correctly a -300. The ILS Z 36 is an RNP approach, an intermediate procedure to descend and bring the aicraft on the ILS final approach using the aircraft's own navigation systems and not with radar vectors. The 'Z' only means that there are more than one RNP approach based on the same beacon. So there is also an 'Y' approach to the same ILS.

Acantilado? Tababela es una especie de isla de 1400 hectares como el Galeao de Rio de Janeiro pero en medio de los Andes y el "acantilado" sirven como una barrera natural que protege al aeropuerto de los volcanes que rodean Quito.
