One of the finest videogames ever made. I've been playing this in the arcade, various 8 & 16-bit conversions, MAME on PC, and on my MAME cabinet and I'm still terrible at it!

This was the coolest game at the arcade when I was 12. Reminiscent of Battlestar Gallactica. This game had a line of kids with chewing tobacco in their back pockets playing it!

🔥DEFENDER🔥 This game holds a special place in my heart.. I played a few of the other arcade games at the time but this was the one that stood out. Watching it now on KZbin and it still holds up all these years later 💪🏼

I played this at an Arcade in South Shields, U.K., in the 80s & was impressed by the 3D-looking Graphics & sparkling Pixel Colours (@0:23), on what was just an ordinary Colour Tv Screen !! I liked looking closely at the Screen, to see how each 'Dot' was being controlled, as each Pixel on the Screen was big enough, so You could see how the RGB colours were used !! The Graphics Card worked hard on these Games !!! 👍🏻😀

The graphics and sound design are just cool as hell. And on such limited computing resources. The game is immersive and convincing without ever coming close to photorealism. Williams had brilliant game design.

Are you serious? :D Actually, Defender utilized the most advanced computing resources of its time; for instance, there was a motherboard and chips for each character, particle effect, landscape, sound, Artificial Intelligence, controller, trouble shooting, everything on-screen. Most arcade cabinets had one or two boards. So advanced, many adaptations of Defender could not properly emulate accurately on home gaming/computer systems until after 2003 and still not gain the full experience of how this machine works.

OMG! Has it really been 40+ years?!? I remember binge playing this game on the Ocean City, New Jersey boardwalk during summer break from college! The sound effects are fantastic! They sound really good in this video on high-def headphones! 👍👾
