Austin Healeys are finally getting recognized as one of England's best sports cars. I drove one, new, in the 1960s. It was a 3000 with 3 SU carburetors. This is an important video. Wonderful information. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sHa5p52Mh7aibpI

I was offered one which looked very similar in Cambridge in the early '70s but couldn't buy it at the time. A great shame.

Sheer wonderfulness!...but even my old 1959 100-6, had much of that very mechanical, growly sound surrounding me, making me feel "as one" with the car!...Back then, everyone was slapping a sound system in their cars--but not me!...Why ruin the transcendent sound of that throaty six cylinder machine! Some people just don't "get it"--and never will.

Just a small point of criticism. Your writer...of the written narrative, has made a typical error of the British. I was born and raised in Warwickshire and when i went to school, i was taught to say "would have" not "would of", which is totally incorrect. Please stop spreading bad diction in the English language. Thank you.

Great video, I keep coming back to it every few years. Seeing the overdrive switch on the gearstick reminds me of the triumph 2000, which had the switch on the top of the stick. It made it very easy to toggle with your thumb.

British sports cars . I love the Austin Healey’s. What an amazing sound. I like all British sports cars. I don’t know why you drive on the wrong side of the road in England? I think I could ever get used to that . LOL
@andybwel1 Жыл бұрын
It is possible that the custom of driving on the left dates back to pre-history and may later have been used as an early road safety measure. At a time when the main danger on the roads was mugging, careful travelers would pass on-coming strangers on the left with their sword arm towards the passer-by.

Lovely to hear the sound of a straight cut gearbox and look out over the bonnet louvres a very evocative video which I’ve watched many times but love it thank you. 🚘

Love a straight cut gearbox-Used to get a bit tedious in my daily driven 1293 Mini (with Weber 45 also )Used to wonder why nobody would ever come for a drive with me!Lovely car-I wonder why there aren't any books written, from the time, giving details of modifications.Loads on Mini plus Ford Escort(obviously later though)

Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party and FFF gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now these green heroes want to slow down all the gas station fuel pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions- and smoke crime :-(

Amazing what is being sharpened behind our backs. Glad I had my '60 and '67 Big Healeys back in the early '70s Before Radar Crime! B-)

@@ianrichardson3228 Biggest problem is China, PRC dictates the end of use of all combustion cars worldwide. Its not about the environment....Chinas boss Darth Xi told most politicians that they wont do any business with underdeveloped countries that still allow CO2 emitting traffic, aircrafts or combustion based industry after 2030...I am sure USA and UK also will be forced by China to 100% electric traffic because today no industrialized country can afford sanctions by China.... China just rules the world...:-(/

Excellent video. The nice thing is that the driver clearly had the sense to drive the car at an appropriate pace for the public highway. Going fast on a "Stage" is another thing and I'm sure this will do just that when asked!

I think the Mk 1 is best. The side-screens look good, especially with works hardtop. Just like the E type and XK Jag, MGB, Triumph TR's, the originals were less weight the later models were heavier. The MK1 Healey is underslung, lighter doors, smaller exhaust system, 'flat-screen' looks right and the seating position is excellent.

I can't think of any car less suitable for rallying than the Big Healey, with its legendary lack of ground clearance, but there y'go; Stirling Moss's little sister won a heap of ladies rallying trophies driving one, too!

Great video, very informative. Which cam is it running and given that you recommend the 34mm chokes, could you get away with 40's instead of 45's without losing too much power and torque?
@7litres6 жыл бұрын
I think the video states that the cam is a 300 degree duration, which is close to the works cam. I think Dennis Welch sell this as a DWR 2 cam. We didn't think about 40s, because all the tuning kits are based upon 45s. The set up is near perfect, almost no flat spot at all. The smaller chokes force the maximum torque lower down, which is what you want when you are using all the rev range. A very underrated road car with this set up. Just needs hard core drivers !
