"Biggest Halibut ever?" not a chance..I've caught 4 halibut over the years in the Pacific Northwest, that dwarf the one in this video. The 'smallest' big one, was 297 lbs.and a bit over 6'4" long. The largest was a hair under 675 lbs and well, a bit over 7' 8". However, the largest Halibut I've ever seen, got tangled up in a trawler's net (mine were all rod & reel) and if I remember correctly it was something over 870 lbs. Bye the way, BIG PacNorthwest Pacific Halibut are incredibly powerful- strong enough to knock the transom out of many sport fishing craft and with large razor sharp teeth resembling those of LARGE 'man eating' type sharks. Accordingly, before one seeks to bring one into one's ship, they are shot in the head with anything from a 9mm (the smaller ones) up to a 12 gauge for the largest one's. Given the work, time and damage to equipment involved in fishing for these giants, not to mention the dangers involved in bringing them alongside the boat, they were/are not often pursued by sport's fishermen. Further, if not fishing to feed a local population, catching even one of these things is pretty much enough for a lifetime.

Awesome! I'd love to catch an eater sized one some day. They're so delicious. I've never seen anyone shoot a halibut on youtube - maybe because it's not allowed on here?

@@guaporeturns9472 No, you have merely discovered someone who can/has do/done things that apparently YOU are incapable of : an event that I suspect will be a frequently recurring theme throughout the remainder of your lifetime. To assume that something cannot be done, is merely to acknowledge that you, yourself are incapable of it. You will find that self assessment to be in NO way determinative of whether OTHERS can do what you cannot.
