I think that the GPU market is heading in the wrong direction. Contrary to what most people think, more VRAM is better. Just try to play with high texture settings and compare the performance to when you set it to low. You'll see that the performance drop is minimal, but the texture quality is huge. Imagine if entry level GPUs would start with 12 gb of VRAM. We would see better looking games. Another issue is that game developers are stupid and support the old GPU generation, like the 1000 series from Nvidia. To have better graphics we need to move the latest Directx version and stop supporting the previous versions GPUs that are not DrectX 12 Ultimate. I'm curious how many owners of the GTX 1000 series buy triple AAA games that were released. We need GPUs with more memory so we have high quality texture. I would love to see better optimization as I hate those stutters with good hardware. What's the point of getting good hardware, the best GPU if all games stutter like crazy.
@casuallygamin9
@casuallygamin9 Күн бұрын
I totally agree that more VRAM is better. The issue is that Nvidia is releasing GPUs with low VRAM capacity, as the 5070 is rumored to have 12gb. I think that the gaming industry is moving forward with upscaling and this helps a bit with relaxing the memory needs. But high quality texture require more VRAM, so only GPU vendors can help with this. Hopefully Intel and Amd will release competitive products soon.

The issue is when people can fix vram hog by adjusting to optimal settings without losing quality. People complain about vram capacity since they tend to set the settings' bar high all the time. nonetheless, NVIDIA are providing the utmost minimum for their product which is why I'm switching to AMD.
@ionutzamfir4969
@ionutzamfir4969 Күн бұрын
@@ThePhenoix504FI3D1I agree. What I meant to say is that high texture costs less performance than VRAM. We need more VRAM so that new games don't look the same as 5 years ago. Have a look at Control and the last Tomb Raider. Those 2 games still look good. The only way to surpass those is better quality texture. I moded Cyberpunk 2077 with higher quality texters, and the visuals have improved

Why do you say these are fake results. Do you expect that having more L3 cache wins in every game? This is not the case. Some games benefit from high speed clocks. This is why the 14900k with it's single core 6000+mhz enjoys wins in sime games. And the 9700x with is single core 5500+ mhz will get some wins. The issue is, people focus on 1080p lowest settings to test it, but its.....not 100% accurate, while using the same GPU...sure, but you should set it to the resolution and settings people would use in most games, cause i will never, EVER run a game in lower settings when i can play it smoothly at max settings. I prefer my games to run at 120fps, no more, no less, but depending on the game, it can go down to like 90fps, but its still perfectly smooth alot of the time, but this benchmark doesn't tell you anything. I don't play competitively, i play games for the gameplay and story and fps is not really vital as long as its smooth and alot of the game these benchmarks show that the games tend to stay smooth overall at the proper resolution and graphics settings, so if you lose 20fps or so, but still get 120fps+ who care, i mean the cpu is 10-20c cooler.....so its a win in my book.
@casuallygamin9
@casuallygamin9 8 күн бұрын
This is precisely the point why I did as well 1440p max settings, as most people who pay 900 euro or usd or even more will play at low settings 1080, or even medium settings. And as it can be seen, current CPUs can push these GPUs to their full potential at higher resolution or increased graphics settings.

With the same settings, same GPU voltage and clock, Linux fps is higher than Win10 22h2 about 3%. HIGHER! Sounds weird, right? I tested it many times, then I believed my eyes. What's more? At the same time, the GPU power consumption on Linux is about 15% lower than on Windows. I guess you are not using Proton GE. @casuallygamin9 It would be better to try the latest Proton GE on Linux Steam. That's way much different than the Steam inner/original Proton. I saw many guyz tried Linux gaming but utilizing old proton, then told us: Linux gaming sucks. Emmmmmm, that's not fair, not true Linux gaming could really be. I compared playing BlackMythWukong on Win10 22h2, Win11 24H2 and on Linux, all RT off, all with same game settings (including resolution and other graphic settings). I only have a 750w power supply. So I have to lower the voltage abit to avoid AMD spike power consumption on Windows that usually cuz blackscreen or crash. In Windows gaming, 7900XTX, 1090mv with 2525Mhz, BlackMytyWukong, this game is usually reahing 350w, some scene can reach nearly 400w, and also easily makes my rig crash (driver 24.5.1 or the Sep16th preview driver. I utilized DDU to make a clean driver install everytime). But on Linux, 2525Mhz 1090mv, usually cost 260~280w at the same scenes. The method I compare is to use shrine traveling to some specific points, then wait for a minute and record the power consumption and fps. The other advantage on Linux gaming is that I could set the voltage lower to 1075mv, but the GPU core could reach 2700Mhz or higher . It's way way way way much more stable than on Windows, and also without any crash without any issue (on Windows would probably crash with this voltage and gpu frequency while gaming). I played through all the BMWK the 2nd cycle on Linux at 1075mv 2750Mhz (set by LACT. most of the time the GPU core was 2600~2700) 350W power limit (usually 280~320 while gaming) withou any crash. ps. Jan 26, 2017, Microsoft made Direct3D shader compiler opensource. Nowadays the DXVK or Proton or something like that make it easier to translate the DX shader cache for Vulkan rendering. ps2. I didn't lie. I also did have tried many Linux (more than 15) distros the last half month cuz I got a strange login stuck issue on Fedora + KDE. Last Friday I finally figured that out that was weirdly caused by one of my SSD is not compatible with Fedora + KDE. The login stuck issue was never happened on non-fedora based ditros or non-KDE desk environment.

@@fullmetaljew7257 I'm on nobara 40 using i7 7700HQ and GTX 1060 6GB, it's an old laptop but the performance in games in miles ahead of windows for me. Take helldivers for a spin, windows I was playing on low with fps drops, on nobara using Proton-GE (which you can install with one click thanks to apps included in the nobara 40 distro) I am playing nearly 60fps on medium, on preset above steam deck. I have not encountered a game which I can not play, except the xbox live games which are windows only. You can also use Lutris which is bundeled to play games which are not from steam, and it runs great also. Another example is Dota 2 which is a game I've spent nearly 7k hours in, since it came out. Lately I could not play on windows, lowest settings and I was getting below 30fps in fights. On nobara I'm getting 60+ constantly on the highest settings.

@butcherboi91
@butcherboi91 15 күн бұрын
Yeah, but which compositor have you selected at login: Wayland or X11? As I understand it, Wayland should have lower performance because you are using Proton (which is an X11 application and so you will be using XWayland). This means you will be running an X11 session within Wayland, which could increase input lag and reduce minimums compared to a native X11 session. Could be an interesting one for you to check.

@@butcherboi91 Hmm, I didn't have that option, but as far as I know, Federo 40 removed X11, and Nobara 40 is built on top of it, so I would assume Wayland

You could've tested fsr and rt separed too, cuz I can understand if such performance hit on Nobara was due to RT + FSR together or just the RT implementation that is bad.
@casuallygamin9

If I didn't use FSR in Wukonk, Alan Wake 2 and Cyberpunk 2077 I will get single digit FPS at 4k in Linux, literally a slide show

@@casuallygamin9 that's weird how rt performance is that bad on RADV driver on Linux, shouldn't be so behind of Windows performance. Maybe try with a different driver on Linux like AMDVLK or its proprietary one AMDGPU-PRO, just for comparison purposes.

It is in line with what I saw a few months back. RT performance is behind Windows when using the open source drivers.

@@casuallygamin9 yeah, but recent performance boost commits into RADV improved RT performance into almost as close as Windows performance, which is why I find weird such bad FPS you had.

Well Cyberpunk 2077, Alan Wake 2 and Black Myth Wukong are heavy RT games. Except Cyberpunk where RT was set to High, the other 2 are with Path Tracing. As you can see in Ratchet and Clank and Outlaws with RT set to low, Nobara performs close to Windows.

12:55 I wouldn't call that a win for windows on remnant 2. The avg fps difference is about 5 fps or less but the .1% lows are like almost 20 fps more on nobara. Anyway great coverage, I like these videos they are well done. Only thing that I dislike is the background music. I like to hear the voiceover and nothing else like in documentaries 😂. Plus your voice is not very strong and I think it would be easier to understand your speech.

Bazzite user here. I used to be on Nobara for a long time but just switched to Bazzite and now use it full time. It’s been a smooth experience i think it’s due to it being immutable vs a rolling distro. I only use Windows nowadays to get my PUBG fix. Noticed your frametimes are way better vs your last vid. What do you think is making the difference?
@casuallygamin9
@casuallygamin9 16 күн бұрын
Well, there are constant improvements when it comes to drivers. On Windows I think that the latest patch also helps with the performance. Both OS have seen an uptick in performance due to the latest updates.

I'm about to build a 7800X3D system on an ASRock B650E Taichi Lite board. I have on hand a Peerless Assassin 120 of some flavor and an Arctic Liquid Freezer III 240mm AIO. I think in this testing the placement of the CPU radiator in the front is hindering the AIO's ability to cool the CPU (and probably also the GPU). I prefer to draw room air into the case using unhindered front fans and place the AIO radiator in the case roof. That is the configuration I will be using.
@casuallygamin9
@casuallygamin9 18 күн бұрын
When you place the AIO in the front you will have lower CPU and higher GPU temps then placing it on the top. Top placement means that the AIO will pull air from inside the case and in intense gaming scenarios the air inside the case will be warmer due to the GPU.
@rangersmith4652
@rangersmith4652 18 күн бұрын
@@casuallygamin9 Always a compromise. The concept I wanted to emphasize is that when the GPU is air cooled, the most common situation by far, it is vital to feed it cool air. When the radiator is in front, the GPU gets air that's already been heated by the CPU. In a gaming system, again the most common situation for PC builders, the GPU is shouldering the load more often than the CPU.
@casuallygamin9
@casuallygamin9 18 күн бұрын
Yes, you will always introduce hot air when installing the AIO in the fron. A way to mitigate this issue is to install fans at the bottom and have top exhaust fans, but that will help only a bit.
