Solid bottom heavy groove that, thanks for showing us! I guess in funk its always heavy ( larger drum strike as also on congas, and Bass drum on drum kit etc ) on the 'One' of the count! Many years ago I would have the habit to start on the smaller drum on the One and wonder why it never sounded quite right!

Thank you for your channel, Roman. How would you compare the LP 1964 Mahogany bongo and the LP Generation II bongo? Which would you choose as a professional bongo player?
@RomanPercussion17 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching! I like both bongos, I’ve owned a Gen 2 for a long time and I think it’s a great bongo. The 1964 is a special set in my opinion because of the history behind that model and the wood they used for that. Either one you can you as a Pro, lots of people use both. I do like the smaller macho on the 1964 but I think it makes it difficult to find a synthetic head that fits because it’s smaller than the standard “7/7.25”. So that could be a factor, the hembra is slighter smaller as well compared to the Gen 2. So those are things to consider depending on your preference. But either one works perfectly.

This is really good ..i have bought some bongos to learn how to play them alongside my dj,n ..this is just what I need..ps does it matter what way you play the bongos?or is this in a mirror
@RomanPercussionАй бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it. I’m a left handed player so when a right handed person sees me play, it’s like a mirror effect.
@MrWolf__Ай бұрын
@RomanPercussion I get it now... Why I did not think of that.. So your left hand is the more stronger one..

Is it worth putting a good head on a cheaper bongo body?

Definitely worth it, a better head would make a difference

Nice comparison review. I notice you are playing on a rug Which is affecting the sound.
@RomanPercussionАй бұрын
Thanks! The rug is to dampen the studio room but I’m playing on a platform that is under the drums, the drums aren’t directly on the rug

That first hembra head you can’t pay me to change it. I can live with the macho being skyndeep tucked. But that hembra gotta stay. -been playing since I was 3. I’m 44-
@RomanPercussionАй бұрын
I think in this video I didn’t have the skyndeep yet but that’s my favorite synthetic head besides the original Fiberskyn 3.
@TriAreOneАй бұрын
@@RomanPercussionthat fiberskyn 3 sounds a lot like the original LP hembra just a little less reverb. The sound that I really like is the one the LP original makes the second time you hit it. The hembra. The first has a lot of echo to it like reverb but the second hit is that sound love. But honestly listening to it again the nuskyn in the hembra and the skyndeep in the macho may be something thing I’d like to try. I think it would sound so good! Specially for an audio engineer to mix! Great video!!

Thanks from UK, nice groove which I also play a very similar groove but without that super quick slap stroke after the 2nd open stroke on larger tumba drum , nice that , gonna use it

Hard to hear the tonal difference because the different bongo sets are tuned differently

I agree with everything you said about Georgie Delgado. Could watch him play for days. Met him a few years ago at Jazz Alley in Seattle. He was checking out the acoustics in the room right before the first set. We chatted about tumbadoras and a little history. He shares knowledge. Its an honor and privilege to watch him perform.

I was faced with a tough choice between the JCR and LP Low Pitched Cowbells, but I would go with the JCR Cowbell.
@chispin7633 ай бұрын
I found one of these in my country hella cheap, i didnt even planned to bought one, but i feel like i shouldnt let this opportunity pass. Brand new for about 260USD , creo que debí haber escrito en español xD. Estos timbales comparables con alguna gama de Meinl or LP, what would be its competition in terms of quality, not price?
@RomanPercussion3 ай бұрын
Good price for them I think. That’s cheaper than I’ve ever seen them. No puedo comparar lo con las otras marcas. Son distintos pero, más o menos, tienen un sonido cálido, pero corta en tarima so son buenísimos.

I like JCR (Medium-Low) and Mostly like LP Low Tone- ES-9. I have Colombian bells medium and high pitch that I use often. I also have a Toca Bell Medium pitch. Now just bought the LP ES-15 which I did not like so much. So I'm going to sell it. I'm interested in a low-low pitch if its even possible. But I can do with low pitch ES-9. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and well play.
