I owned this bike between 2001 and 2006. Took part in the Banbury Run on it in 2002, 2003 and 2004. Sold it to Verralls in Feb 2006. It's original IoM registration number was MN 3670.

Would you happen to know which Lucas electric headlamp that is, and if that was original with the bike?
@vintagebiker13522 жыл бұрын
Hi, Yes it came with the machine when new. It is Lucas Magdyno Lighting and ignition set, type E 3 dynamo and type R 40 or R510 headlamp. Bruce Mainsmith do a photocopy of instructions. Regards

Hi, nice sunbeam. It's a model 1 not 2. 1 was tourer with racks. 2 was sports with no racks and different saddle and bars.

Twin cylinder engine😮
@vintagebiker13523 жыл бұрын
Yes a V twin - engine from Motosacoche - with Royal enfied gears. Motoscaoche made a exact same machine called Motosacoche. in 1913 Royal Enfield had their own V twin engine (430cc )

Nothing quite like vintage motorbikes. Douglas's were used by despatch riders in WW1 and were very successful in track racing and speedway in the 20s.

Oh my I am close to tears. My grandfather, who I never met was a Despatch rider in WW1. I have been trying to find out as much as I can about him and finding your video, hearing what he must have heard..... well you made a 61 yr old woman very happy :) I'd be happy to send you photos of him on his bike, I have one with a whole row of other Despatch riders before they were deployed. He sadly he died in 1947 at only 52 and was in the Black Watch (Royal Highlanders), Highland Cyclist Battalion and finished in the Royal Engineers

This may be 1926 .. 1925 model had a band front brake, awesome bike
@KH-jd3ow2 жыл бұрын
Could still be a 1925. They produced the band brake up until mid 1925 before changing to the drum brake.

had a James 350 single cylinder motorcycle in 1960, identical to this! I “restored” it while at school. After stripping and rebuilding the engine it would start but was “8 stroking”. No one knew the cause, until finally someone suggested opening the magneto points wider than recommended and it ran like a dream! Sold it some years later for £28. Could it be the same bike? That was in Nuneaton. I see this is Bexhill-On-Sea
@vintagebiker13524 жыл бұрын
Hi Stanley, I have had this machine for about 15 years. I know all the owners from 1973 - It was in Leicester and then Birmingham. So it might / coud be your old machine. A.
@STANLIZ44 жыл бұрын
vintage biker thanks for your reply. It was brought to school by a boy who’s Father had known of it in farm buildings. It was mainly complete but extremely dirty engine wise. A socket was welded into the head to enable a pipe to be fitted but the pipe was never fitted! The silencer was cast with James on it. There was a window showing oil being fed into the engine. It would have been sold locally because you only advertised locally in the 70s! Your restoration looks fantastic! If you could send pictures Id be interested to see them. Email [email protected] As mentioned Ive never seen another and this is the only one on this site too. Remember it was quite torquey! Rode it round the school playing field until complaints to the headmaster brought the fun to an end! I think it could have been 73 aprox when it was sold.
