American taxis have been American full-size RWD sedans for decades. Yet, the Dodge Charger was never used as a taxi in NYC but was commonly used in Las Vegas. I heard it was because the V6 was not as reliable as and more expensive to operate than most of the Japanese models. Then, when I heard the Mustang Mach-4 sedan is in development, I thought maybe the EcoBoost would work as a taxi since it’s a 4-cylinder instead of a 6-cylinder. Furthermore, a hybrid was reportedly considered, which would make it even cheaper and cleaner to operate as a taxi. Sadly, this optimism was short-lived as TLC now requires all new taxi models to be wheelchair-accessible no matter what. A sedan would never have that much room so I guess NYC will never have iconic taxis ever again. However, this really needs to be accepted since some people are disabled and it’s not their fault they can’t walk if they were born with their condition. So it would definitely be fair to eliminate the need for them to selectively hail the right taxi and instead be able to hail any taxi at all.
@CrownVictoriaNYC17 күн бұрын
it'll be a different taxi landscape for sure.
@anonymous373817 күн бұрын
@@CrownVictoriaNYC Yeah, sometimes, we have to accept certain changes and new normals in public. But replacing sedan taxis with minivan taxis would eliminate the possibility of seeing taxis with iconic body styles on the streets anymore. But making more subway stations accessible and leveling their platforms with the train floor would not defy tradition at all, since the lack of elevators or ramps isn’t like that.

West LA needs to convert these highway-streets into actual streets where it's safe for people to walk. Just about every street is negligently designed around there to give the impression that drivers should go at highway speeds.
