I'm trying to find out what the best pickup is for this same idiopan, can you please advise? I've watched other videos that have amplified idiopans, and the one I would like to have is similar to a guitar pickup's end plug which is screwed on tight to the drum allowing a cable to be plugged in without having a wire hanging from the drum.

Thank you very much. I have the same idiopan, and the only problem I have - other than tuning it - is I need to use the mallets because even with having bought the hard plastic fingertips it won't sound much at all when I try finger tapping. That's ok though, because using the mallets makes a beautiful sound.

Good stuff. Where do the pickups go inside the drum? Are they standard Piezo? Very cool. Don't see too many electric tongue drums out there.

Thank you! Yes it’s cool to see steel tongue drums in a new light :) The pickups go inside the drum on the bottom. The pickups are magnetic making it easy to attach them to the drum. Made by EnSoul Music Designs.

How can we tune it to A=432 Hz? And A=440 Hz?

Many tuners come set to tune in A=440. In this video we explain how to slide the magnets under the tongues to change the pitch. If you want to tune in A=432 I would recommend the app, PanoTuner. In the settings you can change to A=432 and then tune your Idiopan within these parameters. Please contact [email protected] if you need further assistance.

i notice that the highest notes sound a bit quiet compared to the low ones

They are a bit tighter from my experience. It's more noticeable when playing with fingers. In general some notes need softer strikes, some harder to get even volume over the scale. This is true with all tongue drums I've tried though. Just part of the way the instrument resonates I guess.

Thanks for sharing. To reach this tuning you would have to install the advanced magnet pack for the Dominus. This advanced magnet pack extends the tuning range from the standard magnet pack which comes preinstalled.

Are you adding the magnets to the inside of the drum or using them on the outside of the drum?

Hey Jodie, there is a magnet underneath each tongue inside the drum. Using your finger, you can slide the magnets to change the pitch.

As a fellow maker, I must happily concede that you have one of the finest sounding tongue drums on the market. That steel you're using is great. Beats the 14ga mild steel I use. I'm sure it costs an arm and a leg right now unfortunately. Stay strong!!

Oh Yes! When considering whether to get this one, tunability of the dual tongues is an enigma ... perhaps a tutorial on octave and other more creative combinations, how to interpret some of the minor and other tunings with unique tongue combos for this instrument in mind. The possibilities are absolutely staggering!
