Thank you for letting thses riders demo your gear and their feedback! I have enjoyed limited time on the new 600 wahoo, 170 large back wing, and found i need the thickest, 1.5 depower shim, to allow the mast base slide back a bit from the front, with 8.5 and 7.3 GA vapor air sails. I'm 75 kg. The new wahoo much more responsive to my weight transfers than the gorge 800 and 900 series, which those, i needed 3.0 mm depower shims with the 190 rear. With the CA 660, and 540, and 190 rear I also needed 1.5 depower and still often had trouble with suprise lift at speed. The new wahoo, with its much better lift has a more predictable and smoother power that I can control much easier with weight transfers. I'm anticipating the new Tabou 86, with slightly more forward placed front foot straps will allow the mast base to side back another cm for a more upright sail. Thanks for the great content.

Yes I had iQ but didn’t like the thick profiles so swapped to F4 after a lot of research and have really enjoyed their products and development. F4 GP 540 Wahoo - A Great Single Foil Option kzbin.info/www/bejne/n2qcnmecgrl9ndk

If you are pumping in levitation after a good jibe and standing on the edge, do you use your legs to push the board forward, or do you only pump the sail?
@Berowne17 күн бұрын
I think it depends on the situation. If it’s windy and you slowed down too much you probably only need one good pump. If it’s super light then yes you would need to do both.

The riders did 18 to 30 knots during some Olympic IQ foil metal races. What's your best average speed over a distance of 20 miles on this foil?
@Berowne4 ай бұрын
I’m no Olympic level rider and only had a couple of light wind sessions over short distances so can’t comment on speeds yet.

@@Berowne But I like it very much. Today I was on Wahoo 700 & 170 extra large rear wing for the first time and I am completely excited.
@markocernic86593 ай бұрын
I am using 190 XL rear wing with Wahoo 700 and I must say, that the combo is incredible. A lot of windfoilers wouldn't agree, but I find F4 Wahoo much better than Patrik Aeon. Cobia is smaller but more lift, smoother start in better in luls, comparing to 900 Patrik wing
@positive564 ай бұрын
Do you use shims to add/decrease power at the tail joint or not necessary?
@Berowne4 ай бұрын
Shims are available and can be added to the joint before tightening the screws. I didn’t use any yet!

Lots of good advice here. I'm at a stage where I tend to do kind of a "skidding" gybe. In other words, I'm struggling to keep the board above the water and fully on the foil all the way through the gybe. I see some tips here that might help.
@Berowne4 ай бұрын
Especially with smaller foils you need to maintain speed and be continuous about back foot pressure at different stages. As you slow and switch feet you need to lean less forward and/or apply more back foot pressure. If you carve harder you lose more lift too.

Great video - I need to start heeling the board more to windward when trying to stay in control. Also interesting ref oversheeting too. How tight are your footstraps (thinking about crashing!)?
@Berowne8 ай бұрын
Glad it was helpful! My foot straps are a bit loose so I can fall out. Maybe too loose? Actually my rear straps are rigged like a race board upwind strap…. As far apart and loose as possible so I can twist my foot to the right position as needed.

What's special about the sail?
@Berowne9 ай бұрын
So it has no hard cam’s, instead an air bladder that needs to be pumped up to help keep the draft shape. Also keeps water out which can add 10kg to modern foil sails while up hauling!

Both good for different purposes... Course racing upwind is easier on 100 wide Patv2 while FMX is better for slalom and is actually easier to pump.

Would you ever cross the Straights of Florida as an experienced windfoiler? That's a situation in which speed would be important because it's a long enough journey to be exhausting already, and you don't want to be out there longer than you have to given it's a somewhat unpredictable stretch of seas. Do you foil for hours at a time? I want to make the journey but thought it might be worth getting thoughts from someone more experienced. Obviously I would need to put in a lot of practice of my own before attempting it

Your foil sails are same as mine! Which one do you prefer? Loft or Patrik?
@Berowne Жыл бұрын
Over the last 4-5 years foiling sails have really improved. I used to ride MauiSails for slalom (and modified these with a new clew eyelet) thr. First bought 2x lofts (8&10). I then found a deal on 3 phantom when I wanted to buy a 9… then upgraded some slalom sails to Patrik (5&6) and 7 from loft so had too many different brands. Now I got 9,8,7,6 in CHS, 10 & 5 in Patrick and looking for a 4… nine of these were “bad” sails I’ve lived them all. Loft and Patrik might last a bit longer. Phantom and CHS seem to be built a bit lighter. Patrik long cams are cool.

Mast base at 131cm too far forward, 134 was even more too far fowrard but worked OK with 7.1. GPS Coros Watch said 20kt alpha :) Mini-Motion GPS said 19kt alpha :(

Hi there! Congrats on your Gybes! Let me ask two things, one is this a dedicated foil sail? And two, what front wing size are you using?
@Berowne Жыл бұрын
Sorry @edunegrao, I did this vid a few years ago. 8.0m foil sail from Loft. The Skyblades are nice! FMX 91 slalom board (I like the Hyperion so much I bought another!) and the foil... really can't remember. I went from AFS to Starboard to F4 over this time. I would guess this was the AFS 800 or so sized foil.
