It is an L-shaped paddle that meshes with the internal gear to lock the cuffs going in and prevent them from going out. The key bends the paddle to allow the gear to move when opening the cuffs. To address what you didn't see. The paddles are pretty low profile (about 2mm tall) so they didn't really show well. I will adjust the camera angle for future low-profile prints. Thanks!
