why the hell would you make the black wire hot, and the green wire ground. its always red wire hot, black wire ground. so stupid.
@michaelwinans4853Ай бұрын
That’s true of DC connections but guitars are technically using an AC signal, where black for hot and green for ground is the standard.

It doesn't matter. Just orient the bridge which ever way, intonate and play.

This video helped me wire my first guitar, it was a Jackson js22-7 and pretty much I made a single volume, 1 pickup with a two way mini for coil splitting.

Actually in my experience it really matters. When the flat side of the saddle is faicing to the pickups, strings are brigther and I like the tone better. On the other hand, when the flat side is faicing to the tail piece, it loses a lot of shine and becomes rougher to play (plus, it tends to break more strings). This is in my experience. My luthier said that it really doesn't matter but I'm not agree. (Btw, this experience was in my Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Es-335 2023).

If you believe you hear a difference, then face the saddles in whatever way you think sounds better.

I like 500k EVH Low friction pots so I can do volume swells, but they don't make split shaft versions for strats...what would be the equivalent? I need 500k split shaft low friction "speed" pots.

I have a univox custom electric guitar, I noticed inside the guitar, there's an original sticker that says, Univox custom series no. 111 it has a steal reinforced neck. This guitar is almost in perfect condition. Does anyone out there have any idea what this guitar is worth ?

Hi all, I have a couple of things that really can make things easier. First of all a correction, he refers tge outer coating on the red, white, black and green as "Shielding" that term is not really correct. It is insulation. Shielding is a term that hints that it protects from ground hum or buzz. Shielding is used to reduce noise ie: "Shielding Tape" The second item that saves a ton of frustration is before pulling wiring out after disconnection, I tie a light string to the wires so when I pull the wires thru it creates a pull string to pull new wires back when you put the new pickups in. Easy Peezy! Good luck to you and may your skills grow to Monster Proportions!

Thanks for the vid. I just replaced the stock humbucker in my 8-string kit build with a Duncan Distortion humbucker and, considering that this was for a Seymour Duncan humbucker, I was able to follow this tutorial to the letter. My 8-string is a Tom Delonge-style setup: single humbucker with just a volume knob so the wiring is fairly simple. The hardest part was soldering the wires where they needed to go since I'm not exactly a wizard with a soldering iron. My solder joints aren't pretty but they got the job done.

Did you do a video on replacing the bridge pickup in that melody maker? I found this video while looking for a better bridge for a MM I just picked up and was wondering if you have to route or mod the pickguard for a strat pickup to fit.

I know this is super old now, but man I couldn't have done it without this video... Well I probably could have, but not with the efficiency this helped me do it. I had 0 experiece soldering before doing this on my guitar, so I was a bit nervous to attempt to learn on my instrument. Super straight forward, best tutorial on soldering guitar pickups on this app.

Outstanding video! I'm trying to put an SSV+ into the bridge of a super strat, and have no desire to do coil splitting with it. That said, there's virtually nothing out there, whether it be wiring diagrams or videos showing how to wire up a series bridge humbucker into a strat (that was previously an SSS). So, I'm simply working with two 250K tone pots and a 500K volume pot. I'm probably over-thinking it, but it would be nice to see it done visually. Suhr doesn't have a wiring diagram, and it seems to be opposite of my Bare Knuckle Pickups wiring diagram. So, I'm hoping it's the same wiring as the SD. Either way, I'm going to give this a try and see how it goes. This is a great video...thank you for posting!

Did you have any issue with intonation? I have the black Les Paul Hondo and looks like it's probably about the same year as yours. Had not played the thing and probably 10 years and noticed issues and battling to get intonation right. I think I finally narrowed it down to whoever put it together in the factory did not accurately set the bridge. It is just slightly off. And also notice that the Honda does not angle the bridge as much as an actual Gibson Les paul.

Hi. I had no issues with the intonation.

I just got a hundred dollar one off ebay. 2015. It's also in great shape. I had to give the truss rod a tweak, because someone had it tightened a bit too much, so the neck had a reverse bow and fret buzzing at the lowest registers. I also raised the pickups a bit. I was going to do the P90 conversion, but it sounds surprisingly good as is, and it's a living room guitar anyway. Since I chose to keep the original humbuckers, I got some pickup covers (which literally came in today) as you did. A bit of research showed that the neck pole spacing can be either 49.2mm or 50mm..... 0.8mm is enough to not fit. Bridge pickup pole spacing is 52mm regardless. The only thing I don't particularly care for is that the finish is thick and doesn't look at all like real tobacco sunburst. Real tobacco burst was brown around golden ochre yellow, with the brown fading into the mahogany sides (I have a '54 ES125, and just got my friend's '59 Melody Maker). New ones are black over almost yellow orange. No complaints for the price and what it'll be used for. When my wife first saw it, she said it's beautiful (and it is). When I put it (and my Gretsch Electromatic) next to the vintage Gibson, she said "those look fake" next to the old one. BUT, it's a nice playing and sounding cheap guitar, so I'm happy with it.
