Work on regular peg stalls and grinds first. You don't need to hop very high to grind a small ledge. Look how high my tires are off the ground in this clip. Not too high, right? I learned feeble grinds before I could even manual that well. Peg stalls/grinds are fun and help your bunnyhops get higher.

Thicker toed shoes will help others foot jams and putting a bar end that’s wrapped around with tape and stuffed to the bottom of your fork will help you lock in the jams better

Is it much easier to wall top if your front wheel is lifted or in a manual position? Unlike doing it in flat ground nag directly hoping?

I'd say a regular wall ride with both wheels is the easiest because there is more surface to distribute weight so you can compress and pop off the wall. If there is a bank up to the wall it's way easier and I would recommend that set up for learning the trick. Good way to get the feel of wall rides is just carving a quarter pipe or riding a very steep wedge.
