I grew up idolizing Igor as a violin player. The whole business of him being in the shadow of his father was simply an artifact of him living under the limitations of the soviet regime, and deciding not to leave the country. He was a brilliant violonist. It pains me that his wikipadia mentions that. He lived under an extremely limiting regime. Compare this with Heifetz and figure out the difference.

This man is obviously a maestro. Superb!! But listening to Jascha Heifetz you just sit back in literal awe.

I love violonists who don't do excessive body movements while playing.

Me too! I was taught not to move around except for any natural movement that would result from being relaxed with good posture and as a result of the necessary arm, wrist and finger movements. And there are many practical reasons for not moving around excessively - so not just because excessive movement is very annoying and distracting to watch.

nostalgia, if we could go back in time, we wouldn't feel the same since the only good thing about before is the initial feeling, wasn't it?

Because we forget mediocracy :), maybe they waited for a 'legend' for 20 years, then 40 for another, we just remember the greats!

This sounds so nerdy but he literally has the most relaxed wrist with his bowing. It's actually how I was taught to bow. It makes it so much easier on your hand when you can bow with a fluid wrist like that. Good tone and dynamics. Beautiful interpretation from him! Bravo!
