Wow, this is really wonderful!

As a kind response to the orchestra: the interpretation of partiture is in this opera tricky - there are other ways (as always) to read everything in a partiture. But on the whole this version is to be prefered - at least I think so now have reread the whole partiture a third time. And also inpart checked with Händel's "original" one. Very difficult to tell the "correct" versions here and there. A matter of ink... and old ink it is! One cant be anything than impressed by Händel - writing all this operas down must have been tormenting, especially in the winter seasons. But luckily for us he did it: we now have this fantastic music to enjoy!

As a kind response on Emman's voice: there are a lot of problem recording this opera on a live stage. As clearly heard on this recording. It sounds sometimes as recorded trough cans and buckets... There is also errants/flaws made somewhere in the orchestra - I hope someone could add a better recording of this otherwise grand and delicious opera by Händel. The opera deserves a lot of attentions - it's a marvelous thing! With quite demanding turns for both voice's and instruments! Not to mention the technicians in a studio...!

A caberet style of singing does not suit the English Artsong! Why appropriate the Baritone's repertoire? It's rather similar to Countertenors wanting to sing Frauenliebe und Leben, isn't it? Brilliant pianist, who however does not capture the folkdance (reel) feeling. What is the character of the singer? Old man? Jilted lover? Regretful dying man? Nature-lover? We can't tell from the voice which colours only the words.
