Paying that much for rent is ridiculous. You could get something of the same quality for cheaper in Hertfordshire which is a short drive away. You’re better off saving a getting a mortgage on property like that

2 reasons. Firstly that staircase is too steep to be deemed as sensible access, the second factor is fire safety. They’ve fitted skylights but they can’t be designated as escape routes. It’s not illegal, it just can’t be counted as a sleeping space for safety reasons.

Do not buy, it has been altered illegally, will not pass building regulations. The authorities will insist it is altered back to how it was.

It’s not illegal. It just can’t be counted as an official bedroom due to fire regulations and that ladder thing as access is far too steep to be considered a staircase. The fact it has 2 skylights does make it useable as a bedroom or office.

I always believed it was against building regulations to have a lavatory opening onto a living area. When I was in my first flat, I remember my landlord telling me that there had to be another door between the loo and any room other than a hallway.

It’s very common in Victorian terraces to have a bathroom or toilet leading off the kitchen due to the fact there were no inside toilets when the houses were built.

The house is not worth £1.2 million. I don’t know why Hackney so expensive because it’s not even a good area mostly , I was born in Homerton but didn’t spend much time in Hackney to be honest no tubes lots of council estates not my cup of tea china 😉
