Gordon washed up the track and into Rudd's car. That's not a clean pass. He got dumped because of it. This is what I miss is the old school guys teaching the new drivers something.

Watching clips like this, it kind of makes me think there might be a natural hatred between former teammates the year after they were teammates. Ricky Rudd here, Joey Logano in 2013, Kurt Busch in 2006, and there's probably others.

+Beryllium The year before they were, yes. And they even had a 1-2 finish as teammates, too. Ricky won at Michigan w/ Jeff finishing right behind him.

The punishment didn't fit the crime. Gordon moved up and Ricky should have given him a bump. But to bump him and then stay on him throughout the tri-oval is a cheap shot, it's no wonder he never won championship. Really glad Harvick got in his face 9 years later.

+Mac Briggs I don't think Jeff meant to get into Rudd, though. I think his car just pushed up the track, got into Ricky, and then Rudd just snapped, dumped Jeff, and took himself out in the process. You can call it fair play if you wanna, I call it a boneheaded move by Ricky Rudd. Still, it does surprise me that he never won a championship. You'd expect a guy like Ricky Rudd to have 2 or 3.

nascarfanatic2425 Jeff Gordon forced himself in front of rudd when he wasn't clear, gordon definitely deserved the wall. I say that as a gordon fan, he knows better then that, even in gordons testimony he says he ran over the front of rudds car and rudd didnt like that so he wrecked us.... Its obvious what happened. Just fullscreen it.

+Mac Briggs Jeff didn't drive into Rudd intentionally, fyi. If you're telling me that he did that on purpose, you've obviously never driven a racecar before. What Ricky did was dumb, flat out. If you're going to dump a guy, you can't wreck yourself unless you're trying to kamikaze him. In this case, it'd be stupid to kamikaze Jeff for the lead. Boneheaded move any which way you look at it, period.

nascarfanatic2425 I never said he did it intentionally, jeff gordon was a noob in this race, look at him he looks so young. Young drivers do dumb things, plus they USE to be team mates. ricky use to drive under the 5 car with his tide sponcership after darrel waltrip left rick hendrick. the bottom line is that ricky tried to bump him up the track and ended up taking both of em out.

Great story about this wreck, after it was over Ricky and and Jeff were put in the same ambulance for precautionary reasons they put a neck brace on Jeff Gordon then Gordon made a smart remark to Ricky, Rudd then told Jeff "I'll give you a real reason to wear that thing", I really miss Ricky Rudd he was one of my favorites.

Ricky Rudd was like a hornets nest..... harmless if you leave it alone...... but poke a stick in there and watch what happens lol...... was a huge nascar fan for 20 years... lost interest when the rooster retired
