I think you are confused on singing over playback with vocal layering. Mariah is well known for layering vocals in every single part of her range. She's surgical precise to sing the same phrase in maybe 3 different octaves without changing the timing for every word so it is coherent with an added effect. Of course she cant reproduce that live because its impossible to sing in 3 different octaves t the same time so she sings with something called backtracks so shebarmonizes with her e3lf and the examples here are Boy and Oh Cone all ye faithful
