I wish I could get my hands on the full game radio audio. Context makes the moment so much sweeter. I remember the announcers being so disappointed when Manningham caught the pass to set up the Michigan field goal. They were talking like the game was over; came so close, but not quite there. THEN this happens.

I never understood why the placekicker and kicker tried to chase that guy down?? What was that supposed to do?? lmao

That was insane I will never forget that

I was at Beaver Stadium @ Penn State for their "tune up game" vs Florida International. The announcer would announce scores periodically and there was a massive crescendo from the stadium as the score stayed close. The big moment for Appalachian State happened about 15 minutes after the game so people were filing out of the stadium, but there are screens on every level. So we watched the last 2 minutes of the game from the concourse. When that field goal was blocked, the sound of the crowd was surreal. That many people screaming inside of the concourse shook the ground. Everyone was happier for that game that the 59-0 thumping PSU put on Florida Intl. lol! Even though it didn't involve my team, this is a terrific memory.

I remember this game … it was absolutely insane. No one gave App St a chance and they beat one of the best programs at home … which was the largest stadium in college sports (Big House). They kicked in the front door and beat their pants off.

Games like these make college football GREAT. Gives the little guy hope, because it's just 60 minutes of kids playing kids.

This is when Michigan decided it maybe time to shut down their football program. You could see this past season that its still shut down as they beat a mediocre OSU team and then didn’t even show up to their playoff game.

This is definitely the biggest upset of a 1A school by a 1AA. The second biggest was probably North Dakota State University over Kansas State at Snyder Family Stadium in 2012

Appalachian State is in Boone, NC. You could fit EIGHT Boones in Michigan's stadium and still have 6,000 empty seats, that's how much of a size mismatch that App State overcame! 🏈

Appalachian State was already a really good 1 AA team in the early 2000's, they were racking the wins against the tougher teams like Georgia Southern, Wofford, Furman, etc. Now in the 2020's they are a good enough team that they can compete with and even beat the bigger schools in power conferences. The Mountaineers are a very solid program.
