wild billing. this heat with death in june for £2 is legendary.
@FracturedImage15 сағат бұрын
It was the promoter that chose DIJ as support because like you said it is a pretty bizarre billing. Also rumored that This Heat’s drummer Charles Hayward didn’t like them or what they were trying to do with their aesthetic

@@FracturedImage hah! thanks for that tidbit. i can see where hayward was coming from. i doubt death in june's slow turn toward folk won him over either. either way, i'd cut off my left nut to have been able to catch that show.
@FracturedImage14 сағат бұрын
@@GenteelCretinwell hopefully this recording (+DIJ set) is enough to tide you over and at least you get to keep your nut!

One of the roadies tripped over the drum machine cable which lead to the unusual intro. Had to plug it back in.

I was there. Quite possibly the best possible start to a concert ever. Crowd were mesmerised. The whole performance was amazing. If I recall this was when someone tripped over a cable that reprogrammed the drum machine during the gig. I'll need to check my tape.

I LOVE how many times Barney messed about with the lyrics for 'BLT' during 1985 (completely different lyrics from these & the eventual ones during their soundcheck rehearsal from December of '85, available on here, as just the rehearsal/soundcheck version & then the much longer demo/rehearsal/debut performance version) before they settled upon the final lyrics when the single was released in '86 & then the 'Brotherhood' album soon afterward...I especially love the lyrics that he sang during the rehearsal/soundcheck versions that I've mentioned above, although I can't recall them off the top of my head, especially while I have this version of the song playing upon my headphones, as I write this!! And of course, Barney often changes the lyrics of their songs during live performances, most notably "Now that we've grown up together, they're now taking drugs with me" in 'True Faith', rather than the conventional "Now that we've grown up together, they're afraid of what they see'...apparently Barney actually wanted to use the former version of the lyrics of the song but the record company certainly didn't, given how the British broadcasting companies (TV & radio) & even the general public might have reached to them...& then there's the even more controversial that Barney sang live (at least once) that went "When I was a very small boy, Michael Jackson played with me. Now that we've grown up together, he's playing with my willy" & I still have that version saved somewhere, upon one of my many old MacBooks that I have lying about in a spare room, prior to the introduction of 'the cloud'...not sure whether it's still available anywhere upon YT nowadays, though?

"This is that fucking song again"..."Hey, but it's our biggest hit"...classic Barney during the '90s!! Such a shame that he became such a massive twat, after the turn of the century...thank God Hooky remained true to his roots, IMO...

A near riot happened because the band abruptly left the stage with no encore. Audience members had to be pushed out of the venue.

This is when Hooky finally made it to the gig. He was MIA after a liquid lunch. Manager Rob Gretton had filled in on additional percussion for the first two songs.
