My home lake is Lake Conroe, there is a tournament it seems like every weekend, we have big tournaments here and it sucks, they will come in to the best spots and clean it out, I don’t fish tournaments anymore, it’s not that I can’t catch a a few good bass, it’s because I don’t want to fistfight anyone over a brush pile…

Just eat the bass and fisheries would recoup

It’s not the tournaments… it’s the electronics (forward facing sonar is the culprit)

Fish, in general, are not designed to be hauled around, handled,etc. A 25% mortality rate any way you slice it is unsat. (Multi I species angler since 1970, I eat some, but release more.) (Fresh/Salt) 🐟
@trinityoffroadСағат бұрын
I think every state should implement this. Catch. Photo. Release. Just like kayak fishermen do. Nobody cares about watching pro fishermen on TV.

To bad Alabama fishing department didn't pay attention to the Mississippi study about FFS, it was a fishery biologist that showed the harm to the fishery happens with FFS

Caught an 8lb bass in a tournament, had in livewell all day with the chemicals and fresh water flowing and at weigh-in fish was floating in recovery tank with oxygen and was dead. Last tournament I ever fished.

A livewell works great as long as the operator takes care of their fish. I've deep hooked bass, put them in the livewell all day and they do fine. I don't recall losing any fish during a tournament. If they survived 6 hours in my boat I doubt they die when released but of course I can't confirm that. The problem is the lazy fisherman that don't take care of their fish. They're responsible for the low mortality rate on released fish. We need to get rid of them. On the flip side they are allowed to keep 5 fish a day. There is room for improvement and its up to the tournament directors. We could get rid of tournament fishing tomorrow and a lot of these people griping about tournament anglers are still going to gripe about something because they just suck at fishing.

Outta all the money that is involved with tournament fishing they should atleast have to restock the lakes that they fish atleast once a year that would help the kids to have something to catch and get more excited about fishing,,,and discontinue using live scope in tournaments because I thought that was the purpose of tournaments to find out who is the best fisherman not the best at reading ascreen telling where they are 😂

Tournaments are the reason they're in this predicament. I love to fish but I've grown to hate tournaments because they do so much harm to fisheries! When I lived in Alabama I witnessed so many dead fish just floating around after tournaments, it makes me sick to think about it. Saw it on Logan, Neely, Lay and especially on Guntersville.

It should be illegal and highly charged for sending children outside through our local district in freezing weather. The response is, they will go outside, it’s your responsibility to dress them accordingly, if you can’t afford winter clothing, your child still goes outside. There is no one available to keep kids indoors and supervised during recess.

Tournaments are not the only thing affecting the population of all fish. It's the sheer number of people fishing now. I'm 64 and have fished the lower Alabama Delta all of my life. Back in the day I might see one or two boats on the weekends. Now you see 20 boats every day of the week. You can"t control who fishes. only the amount and size caught and kept and this should apply for EVERYONE fishing.

Nope… it’s the electronics. More people fishing with electronics is what’s devastating… more people fishing without doesn’t a make a difference.

@zebwalton979 do they spray there? Do they stock? Has the human population increased in said areas? Increased pollution... What other environmental factors exist? Bass fisherman are 99% catch and release, has the recreational fisherman who eats his catch increased? Overall habitat of the floral and especially the fauna, what do they feed on and have they been impacted? But a few rich dudes on the weekend with FFS nahhhh I hate FFS btw
