The cubs are 962 and 964. They were born in 2017 and were yearling when this video was shot in 2018.

@@billybob2372 Not much. They were seen together where one would expect them in early November. Both looked fantastic. The elk shoot in the park was very sparse this year. We had tracks that may have been theirs in to early December, but there was very little snow and warm daytime temperatures didn't leave a lot to look for.

The collars are applied as a provision of the ESA. About 25 females and 25 males are collared in the GYE at any given time. We are not in charge of naming bears, but it would really be something to see the parks channel the Rwandans and have an annual naming ceremony for grizzly bears (and wolves). The Rwandans have a ceremony every September that is a national event where they name all of the baby gorillas born that year. Another bear, a bear we don't know was trapped in between these two bears. That bear was assigned the number 963.

Thank you ! It means that they trap bear cubs too ... I have understood the ugly details of these procedures - they are totally... "ubearable" for me. You love her ? You can gave her a name - I would not expect it from poeple trapping bears and giving numbers for registration and management. @@TheUrsophile 962 and 964 were trapped after they separated from 399. They were being fed in a posh neighborhood south of the park and maybe in the park. 964 was relocated to north of Yellowstone where she has two cubs. 962 had a cub in 2021, but lost him. She was subsequently executed after more negligent food storage issues. Some people called her "Rosie" early on, but the name didn't stick. Looking around at the amount of conflict over naming 399's current cub (Uno, Spirit, Rowdy) we are not willing to wade in that particular hornet's nest at this time. We personally think that forest is being missed for the trees. We'd like to see a Grizzly Bear Protection Act that recognizes their sapience, sentience and innate right to be.

So sad. I remember a genetic study on the descendance of a particular she black bear particularly wise to avoid humans and their food at any cost and whatever temptation could be - she transmitted her wisdom to her descendance that even male youngsters were avoiding humans as mortal danger. With generations her tribe survved and was a dominant part of bear population in the region. Unfortunately, I have not more references on this study. Concerning the Act, we have Cambridge Declaration on Conscousness (as if we need it to know that animals have consciousness...) 962 and 964 were not trapped at the same time. A different bear, a bear we don't know, was trapped in between 962 and 964. That bear was designated 963.

Felicia separated with her cubs in 2023. She may have cubs next year.

Felicia was born in the winter of 2013 so is almost 11.

399 was seen about 10 days ago that we are aware of.

She came out with all four cubs, kept them for a little less than a month and they separated. One cub went southeast out of the park and was fed to death by local residents while the other three went their own ways.

They did not catch one. Yellowstone. Staying home for Thanksgiving.
