How do I know how many stitches I should start with to reach the desired length ? In my case the desired end measurement should be 8,5 inch .

Someone gave me a huge skein of hot pink nylon thread. It worked perfectly. I just melt the ends and then hide them.

I am so lost and am hoping to get some help. I feel like my round is not increasing during the shell rounds. I have been using a stich marker to mark the beginning of each round. When I get to the increase stitch rounds I usually only get 3 increase stitches in the pattern before I get to the stitch marker. I’m on round 15 and only have 53 stitches. Could someone explain to me what I am doing wrong?
