Oh god Ron I have just bumped into an old wargaming acquaintance called Ed. There's a man who has not easily skipped towards charisma. I panicked and talked about your Gangs of Rome podcast. There's no place like Rome in a crisis. If I were a crueller man I might have thrown pebbles at him. The audience is still out on that latter option. With best wishes.
@iannicholson5107Ай бұрын
Ron this is clearly off piste and I apologise for it. In all my long wargaming life and despite many a rulebook, rpg or skirmish, I have never found anything that has captured the Wild West. The first boardgame I ever had was bought for a Christmas long ago and was Waddington's Battle of the Little Big Horn. I have a Western Town without rules. Philosophically that's great but without rules I might as well throw marbles at my painted toys. This is not going to happen. I would appreciate any recommendations. It's not classical but it's where the buffalo Rome.

I am a big fan of Gunfighter's Ball, if you are looking for gunfighter's stuff. It is bloody and built for just a few characters. I am looking for something for more Cavalry and Indian stuff. I have some beautiful Paul Hick sculps for Battle of little Bighorn that I am trying to get onto the field. Might fiddle with Song of Muskets and tomahawks or Men who would be Kings, but not sold on either of them.
@iannicholson5107Ай бұрын
@@CryHavocWarGaming God I love this hobby not least because I understood everything you were talking about. I couldn't quite like the Tomahawks game or The Men who would be Kings. The great regret of my life, apart from Spurs not winning the league since 1961, is that I have never found the perfect English Civil War rules. For God's sake I found an Irish woman to love which is supposed to be difficult if not impossible but the ECW has escaped me. Maybe we are damned, which I have often suspected, but a man who ceases to adventure is paradoxically lost. I enjoy your site and appreciate the work that goes into it. Women and wargames both of which I love, well one in particular, both begin with the letter W. Coincidence? I think not. I am joking by the way. Thanks for the Western rules suggestion. One of the great icons of English wargaming, Donald Featherstone, who I had the great joy of meeting at a show years ago, used to report Wild West skirmish games in Wargamers Newsletter in the sixties. A lot of people were enjoying the summer of love in 68. We were playing wargames. Who's laughing now?

Ron. I am currently bemused by an Irish woman. Once you get by the first fifteen years and eldritch horror and tentacles it is normally fine. I sometimes wonder why we gave them the vote but that's my problem. I sometimes wonder why we gave my woman the vote. She is a good cook and loves me. I am inclined to think she is clinically insane. People who love me are normally out on day release or suitably tagged.

Always a pleasure Ron. As you may well know I am still troubled by nerve damage to a fingertip cut occasioned whilst stripping flash from Carnevale figures. Happily I shall blame you entirely as old men are accustomed to do. As always with thanks. Fortunately my Subbuteo soccer career has not been unduly ended since I am right handed. We flick to kick if you have ever essayed the game. So many football careers have otherwise been ended prematurely by the dubious advice of American wargamers.

I’ve been using Battlespace Deluxe for my co-op wargaming but the progression/narrative 5 parsecs provides has me interested, im curious how the combat compares, I really liked Battlespace’s measuring card system over a grid or measuring tape and the high lethality of it
@rc-pm1feАй бұрын
Great games play, where did you get those buildings and the 3d printed measurement card?
@CryHavocWarGamingАй бұрын
The buildings are Black Site studios. They are a little pricey, but well-made prepainted buildings great for the game. The Acrylic card was a gift from Robert Salters, the author. I would try contacting him or, if you are on the Facebook Battlespace Community page ask there. Phalanx Consortium might do them as well. I know he had talked about it, I don't remember if he did it.

I was watching this post of yours again. It rewards revisiting. I don't know whether you know this but the early Wild West skirmish games of Colwill, Curtis and Blake were very popular in seventies England. I moved on to the Rules with No Name and have £250 worth of never to be assembled Western buildings. I think it was as simple and misguided as recalling a misspent university youth as the grizzled Marshall hunting down my old friend Dirty Pete McKenna and his outlaw rabble in an imaginationed Western County. Dirty Pete's long gone, goldarnit, shot down by the vagaries of life, bushwacked by ambush or by cancer so I heard. One can go back Ron, but one goes back as an older man, I trust still a gentleman, but we do tend to encounter ghosts, also grown more transparent with the passing of the years. As always thank you for your work. Avoid ghosts unless playing gothic horror or if I may recommend one of my favourites. Chaos in Carpathia.

My old friend Peter is having a break from painting his 16th century Italian figures and is painting his front door. I doubt he will rival the masters of the Renaissance. I had that Michaelangelo round once to paint the bathroom. All I wanted was blue paint, two coats on the ceiling. Obviously I got the Sistine Chapel. Ron, I had played the Escape from San Canciano expansion before the England match yesterday. In many ways I had preferred it to the core set. The rulebook was not overburdened with fluff. It's a disappointment that the figures are still bedivilled by flash. I had bought the first two retail editions of Dungeon Saga Origins and the figures are so much better. As for the Dutch I understand they inhabit low lying polders and houses of ill repute and burned Rochester in the mid to late 17th century for which I have not yet forgiven them. It behoves English gentlemen to administer a damned good thrashing to such scurrilous fellows which is, of course, exactly what we did. We have cliffs, they do not, it just makes it easier for us to look down on them.
@CryHavocWarGaming3 ай бұрын
Carnevale figures can be flashy. They also sometimes have very brittle ankles. The newer sculpts are better that way. As to fluff, I wish the would release a printing of the new rules without the fluff!
