Thanks for the video Lyle. I found that portable toilet on Amazon. Since you said it works very well, i'm going to purchase it when i'm ready. I would like to see how you built your upper cabinetry. Hi Dreamlook - Thanks for your comments. I think you will be well pleased with the Thetford 365. It works perfectly in every way. As for the cabinets I built - I used the 5mm plywood that you can get at any of the big box home center stores for the cabinet box end panels and undersides. . For the frames of the cabinet boxes, I used the cedar fence pickets that Dave Mason of Endgame Campers has used in his builds. I planed them down to 1/2" thickness and glued and stapled the frames to the end panels. All of that is mounted to cedar cleats which are screwed to the walls and ceiling, so if I ever need to remove them, I can do so, although I don't see that ever being necessary. I made the doors very simply out of the 5mm plywood and used cedar for the outer framework on the doors, after beveling all of the cedar door frames with a router in a router table. The cabinets were all coated with 2 or 3 coats of polyurethane, which is what I also used on all of the interior panels of the walls and ceiling. In my initial "build" video, I think I showed the completed cabinet boxes before I installed the doors. Upper cabinets are 12" deep and about 12" high for the most part. The kitchen countertop is about 22" deep, roughly 48" long, and about 36" standard height. Look forward to seeing your build as you progress on it. Thanks again!

What happens if someone closes the tailgate while you're inside the camper?
@lylewood1492
@lylewood1492 11 күн бұрын
From the comments below, 6 months ago: Yes, I considered all of that in my design. My tailgate locks with the key fob. So if the truck doors are locked, I can trip the lock strikers on each end of the tailgate and then it's not possible to shut and latch the gate. However, if we were inside and the truck wasn't locked, someone could possibly shut the tailgate. For that reason, I fabricated a simple long hook that I can reach out of the back door window and catch the tailgate handle to pull it up and unlock and let the tailgate down. That hook assembly will be inside the camper at all times, just in case.

Hi, I am considering a camper either similar to your build or a smaller one - 69-70 inside standing height, angles on the roof line as Camper 7 but a short cab-over for storage. Mostly, a one person get-away (a day or two at a dark sky area for astro photography). I am thinking of a smaller build because I don't know the longevity of my 2000 Tundra SR5 Access Cab 2WD. Its bed is shorter at 74-inch available length, 49.3 between wheel wells (normal) but with short rails at 16-3/4 not 21 as with many trucks. A smaller build would look better. F150's new start at $39K or so but quickly go up to mid $40K range. A 4x4 would be good to have. I don't need a F250 or similar. I seldom use my Tundra now just to haul garden supplies and wood pellets. A smaller build with a platform extension could give room for two people. As a reality check, standing in the Tundra bed with arms out gives an idea of the available size (length and width). Very small. So, I understand the tub and cabin super structure. Rear framing has to consider the utility area for an AC Unit and power station, structure to mount a cabinet to for example. Door framing -- can look at any outside door. Need a weather seal. Hinge security pins? Can't put the hinges on the inside so weather doesn't get to it? I have a layout of electrical parts and lighting for running 120VAC, 12VDC and USB charging connectors, to be routed over the XPS foam. Some wires have to go under the floor and/or over the ceiling. For an exhaust fan, I plan on just a small double muffin fan with a downward shroud on the outside rear wall - should be sufficient for such a small volume with windows cracked, perhaps with a circulation fan. I have less understanding of the cab-over structure and how to make it. The KZbin EndGame Camper 3 videos (which are not in the KZbin playlist) have good detail on this, though it is a different build, show some concepts. You had good information and framing detail I greatly appreciate and was able to glean some details. I don't plan to copy exactly, just looking for concepts. Like the mortise-tenon like joints in Camper 3 in the front and rear framing of the cab-over. If I can see the joinery in my head, I believe I can build it. How did you approach the cab-over frame? The platform was composite - strong and light. From the platform goes the cab-over framing. Did you just look and figure out the joints and angles? You have to look ahead to the next joint from each member, how these will connect to each other and to the front cabin roof beam (I don't know proper structural terms for each member). Skinning: I saw you put the foam on then the skin. I think Dave put the skin on then the foam. I don't know if the order matters as long as the foam is flush with the outside framing as you did. With a tight fit, the adhesive should hold the foam when adhesive is applied to put the skin on. I assume a liberal coating of adhesive on both surfaces, skin and frame/insulation. As Dave mentioned, the alignment of the vertical columns is essential to get good flat skin. He said he applied a few screws and used narrow crown staples -- hold down the edges with some screws and use staples elsewhere so the skin doesn't pucker or dimple causing waves in the end result. It is too cold in January to start but I would like to have a plan for warm weather. Starting in April gives 6 months to complete it. Then, hopefully, being retired, I can enjoy it sooner rather than later and not spend $100K on a truck and commercial camper, plus have a good project. Thanks!

Nice take on the EndGame Camper 7. I was thinking of covering the internal foam with plywood. Did you use 1/8" for that? Did you use external grade plywood on the structure and outside sheathing? I recently saw 'poor man's fiberglass' You did a really nice job with the landscape fabric. Did you consider an epoxy coating? The scenes you did are excellent! Really brings it home. I have looked at many camper builds and EndGame's builds are outstanding. I particularly like Camper 7 for the light build and utility of the design. It looks great on your truck!

@@stevenwilliams6258 Thanks! I used the same 5 mm plywood inside and out. It's not external grade on the outside either. Great video. I think the Plywood framing is a great idea. I'm curious did you need to add anything to re-enforce the area where the jack stands are used. I'm thinking of starting a camper soon and worried the tub to the side wings would need extra support if I use jack stand. Especially if I where to pull it out of the tuck and stay in it. Also curious if you glued the foam boards to the plywood for the composite panels. If you did glue them, what type of glue did you use?

I didn't think it was necessary to add additional reinforcement where the jack stands go, as I only uise them to mount and dismount the camper to and from the truck. We don't use it on just the jacks when it's dismounted. Yes, I did glue the xps foam to the plywood panels on both sides. I don't remember the name of the glue I used - it was a good grade of construction adhesive that was rated for gluing foam boards, got it at Menards.

Thanks! I used a total of 6 heavy duty ratchet straps - 2 on each of the front corners and 1 on each of the back corners. So 4 of the straps were secured to the stock tie down points in the truck bed, and 2 more of the ones in front were threaded through the knockouts in the front of the truck bed and fastened to the actual frame of the truck underneath. Hope that makes sense. We encountered some fairly high gusty winds on our trip to MO last June, and the camper didn't budge at all. We also put a 3/8" rubber bed mat down before mounting the camper, and I think that helps keep it from wanting to slide around at all.

His seems way smaller/narrow? I'm thinking maybe his window is bigger. But when I looked at your window it's mounted higher off the counter, while his sits right at the base of his counters? Maybe his kitchen counter sits higher? Has me stumped. Lol...Love both your builds, but aiming towards yours. I really love your cabinets! Built simple, but yet beautiful! Lots of storage space too! On your black external plug-in on the back of your rv...I know you use for shore power, but can you run power into the rv using a generator also? Did you use 12, 14 AWG wiring inside your camper for this? I heard you say besides the 12 volt outlets, you also installed 120 outlets (I like this feature!) . Do you power all this with your portable power station? Or are there other batteries externally? Just wondering how you did this. I'm trying to get idea's to when I'm ready to build mine. Sorry so many questions. Hope u can answer all. Thank you!
@lylewood1492
@lylewood1492 3 ай бұрын
Yes, I can run a generator outside and plug into that black plugin on the back of the camper. I wired the 110v circuits with 12/2 with ground wiring. I have two separate 110v circuits in the camper - one comes in directly from outside through a dedicated circuit breaker, and the other 110v circuit comes out of the EcoFlow power station I use. The EcoFlow is powered either from the 110v shore power or by the truck's 12v system while driving. (I could also charge it via solar panels, but I haven't installed any of those yet.) The EcoFlow is an integrated system with a 768 watt-hour battery inside, so it provides 110v, 12v and usb outlets. I could choose to use any number of other integrated systems instead of the EcoFlow. Using an integrated system such as the EcoFlow simplifies things a lot, although there is still quite a bit to figure out in terms of the actual wiring of the camper. I hope this is helpful.

@lylewood1492 it is helpful, thanks! Ya, I'm thinking of adding at least 400-500 watts of solar on mine. I want to make sure I have plenty. So there is a plug-in cord charging your Ecoflow from the trucks charging system while driving, that's cool! Guess you plugged it in the black inlet on the rear of the rv? I'm trying to picture how long & what this cord looks like? Was it ordered through Amazon or a camper store?

No, it is a separate 12v cable coming out of the cigarette lighter socket in the truck cab. It runs back under the truck bedrail and into the camper and plugs directly into the back of the EcoFlow with the little yellow solar connector. Bought on Amazon.
