For the record: Madlib has gone on to say that he was lying about using the iPad (for years). He said he wanted to let people know that your gear is not important. There are also multiple photos of his studio setup (specifically, in Brazil) and he's using a crappy turntable into an SP-303. Madlib says a lot of 'myth-building' things about himself and you shouldn't assume anything he says about himself or his process is 100% correct.

Similarly, Dilla's Donuts wasn't produced on an MPC on his deathbed but in his house in Logic Pro, that's why it sounds so much clearer than the rest of his beats. A whole bunch of people were complicit in creating and propping up of _that_ myth.

Hell yess Madlib is the goat for do many reasons and i think the constant drive to continue to be freative and ise technology as it progress' is what makes him so inspiring He was able to make entire albums on super shit storage (even for the time) so i can only wonder the potential shit hes cooked eith all the tools a ios device can offer Ironically, a lot more people are gonna prefer the ipad now becusse madlib is using it lol His music has always had this amazing depth and charm and tbh i think hes always ahead of his time somehow lol

Not a single lie was told, I agree with all of that. Madlib’s creativity is second to none which is exactly what makes him the GOAT. He pretty much transcended the label of being called a ‘producer’ at this point. As cliche as it might sound, the man doesn’t make beats, they’re straight up experiences
