Thank you so much, Bryan. I'm glad you enjoyed this DT masterpiece. I really enjoy doing these marathon DT songs, but they do take time. Yes, you mentioned all the time sig changes. This song reminds of "Hollow Years", but with more time sig/tempo changes and much more advanced percussion. I'm currently working on "Outcry", also from this same album-- it's quite advanced. After that, I'll be starting "Night Terror", the new one. Time for me to do all this, is limited, thanks for watching the whole thing.

Brian, this is one of the best songs done on the DT Mangini era... is a bittersweet time for me... as i think Portnoy was a medular part of DT, i loved eveything Mangini did on those 13 years... and i feel, at moments, that Mangini deserved to keep the place at DT... you know i struggle to get Portnoy's parts done... but i really loved how Mangini could blew people's minds even on this "relaxed" song... i mean, this is a ballad... and, my God, has some serious drum work all over it!!! not only RLKKRLKK and multiple combinations!! watched it full, brother!!! loved everything you do on this one!!! will share it too!!

Thank you for such an insightful comment, Joaquin. Yes, this song reminds of "Hollow Years", but with more time sig/tempo changes and much more advanced percussion. What M. Mangini has contributed to DT cannot be replicated, in my opinion. I will miss his writing and drumming so much. I have received several requests for "Night Terror", the new single, but it will be a while. I'm presently still working on this same album. "Outcry" is next-- quite a complex song. You like that one? Thank you for your support. I'll be by to check out your latest.

Amazing cover man! DT is always challenging and you nailed it! Nice edit! Great drum performance all over the kit! 🤘🤘🤘
@precisepercussion22 күн бұрын
Thanks a lot, Tobi. M. Mangini's compositions are really one-of-a-kind. The stark contrast in dynamics with this one, is a challenge. You've got to be able to play at forte (very loud) and then quickly flip the switch to piano (soft). Much of DT's catalog presents this challenge. The versatility to play style ranges from jazz to metal, is an ongoing skill. I'm covering a good bit of this album and working right now on the next one, "Outcry" which is as complex as any piece of music I've ever covered. This whole album is quite amazing. I will also, at some point, be covering DT's newest single-- Night Terror.

Thank you, Wildmonk. Quite a bit goes into the playthroughs of these DT masterpieces. Thought you would appreciate it. Unfortunately, not everyone will sit down and view a 13-minute song, but I wish they would. Alot of time and effort goes into the entire process. 🎵🥁🎵👍🕰

Hey Chris. That's amazing. Yes, this is a typical DT marathon masterpiece that is always quite complex. I've gotten several requests for Night Terror, already. I will do it, but I am working on other material first. I would like to check out Michael Daniele's site. Can you send me a link to his homepage? Thank you. 🎼🎹🎹🥁🥁

Wow, what a perfect coincidence that Dream Theater will perform with Mike Portnoy for the 40th-anniversary tour and I love how you channel your inner Mike Portnoy/Mike Mangini (Mike Squared) in this creative drum performance, Bryan 🥁🎶🎵🤘🤘🔥🔥By the way, can you do "Night Terror" as a request? It's a new song from their new upcoming album, Parasomnia, which was released on February 7, 2025👌👌
@precisepercussion23 күн бұрын
Thank you so much, Tim, for this outstanding comment. I do feel, at times, that my style has characteristics of both Mike's. My technique, I learned directly from M. Mangini's lessons. He's one of the primary instructors I studied under in my musical career. And yes, I will do "Night Terror". I've already downloaded and listened to it several times. I will do a playthrough of it, but I won't be able to start it for a little while. I'll let you know when I get closer. Right now, I'm working on "Outcry" from this same album, which is another very complex marathon song. And I'm working on another Venom request-- "Buried Alive". I'll keep you posted and thank you for the request-- I had planned to do it anyway. It's a great song-- probably looking at doing around the holiday season.

*A beautiful marathon DT masterpiece here for you folks. I covered the live (At Luna Park) version, as it presents additional challenges from the original and I honestly like it better than the album version. Your thoughts? Thanks very much, Tobi. Yes, all over the kit, and lots of ride bell. This one is basically a high-tempo blues-metal riff-- similar song to "Hot for Teacher", with similar drumming, as well. Though this one has an interesting touch with blast beats at a 6/8-time sig, with snare accents on counts 2 and 6. I may end up covering a good bit of this requested Venom black metal album.
