What's the max headload on that ex-military mast? Pretty sure you'll need setting up guying gear.. Got a ZT-115(kg)-11meter for a wind turbine future project. And just landed a prestine SQT-15 meter jobbie that's upped my broadband with headload of 6.5kg. Both are Clark masts & l recommended to y/t off grid scotland: stop messing about with internet relays & get a mast.

Hello. I also repaired my x300 antenna. When i bought it the swr response was ok. After 2 years or so I had high swr response. I dont know why. When I opened it there was one 5pF capacitor inside. In fact it turned out that the cap was ok. (It had exactly 5pF). I tried to make my own 5pF cap with RG174 cable. I soldered it exactly where the previous one was. But unfortunately it did not help. I started to trim the cable until the swr response was ok. So the cable capacitor has now 3-4cm in length.(around 3 pF) The antenna works perfectly now. 1:28 at 144mhz 1.08 at 145mhz and 1.28mhz at 146. At 70cm it is also fine, around 1:2 or 1:3. So if anyone has this problem with antena, do what I did and it will be fine 😊

@@G1WHP yeah it is time consuming. but this method with triming the coax cable capacitor is very good. And those cable caps are easy and cheap to make.

You’ve done a great job in tucking this away into your garden border. I like the flexibility you have built into it, for me amateur radio has always been a compromise without divorce. I also use a Cobweb antenna on the end of an extendable mast bolted on the back of the house and it’s profile is not very visible. I do like switching between antennas as the day progresses as it’s interesting to see the signals I loose in comparison to ones I gain. Cobweb, end-fed and DX Commander it’s amazing how well the end-fed does but then for DX it’s another story. 73 Mike M0AZE.

@G1WHP 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mike. The DX COMMANDER works well. My end fed wire is a good antenna but I get some RF back in the shack when running the linear amp. My cobwebb is on a12m scam mast but propagation is poor so not getting much use right now. I am going to add 80m to the DXC and also put up a doublet in the form of an inverted V cut slightly long for 80m. I will support the centre with a 50ft pole and the ens will drop to about 10ft above ground. Once done I reckon I’m sorted antenna wise without pissing the neighbours off too much. Cheers 👍🇬🇧👍

Hi Ian. The antenna a quite old I reckon 10yrs +. It had only one fixing screw that holds it to the short fixing stub the new ones come with two. The white pole somehow overtime the white pole worked loose and managed to come completely out of the base and I found it hanging from the pole one morning 30’ in the air. But once on the ground I was able to put it back together but did not realise the capacitors had become detached. It was only when we came to use it that there was a fault. Hope this fix works testing later today... cheers Paul

i wouldn't worry too much about the size of the cables, 16mm should be more than adequate, and would say for a short length like that there won't be a problem, the important thing is t get some form of protection as near to the battery as you can, Callum has a 100A breaker, if you did have a short, the batteries have the ability to produce massive currents that could even lead to fire

Hi Paul. Nice fix for what is a rather inadequate valve....but like you say a lack of QC. I wonder what other faults might show up. Hopefully none! What model of genny and is it CE marked for use in EU? I always wonder if the various gaskets/ elastomers will dissolve with the amount of bioethanol in our unleaded nowadays! Keep up the good work. 73

NICKGAR7, Hi, The generator is made by a well know manufacturer Wolf. The model is WPL7500E it’s 8.75KVA and will provide a constant 6000KWh. It is fully EU compliant with CE certification but will we need this after 31 October?? Like all generators of this type it’s not exactly quiet however we positioned it in front of the car and placed the ramp we use to get it in and out of the trailer up against it to provide some noise reduction. It was completely satisfactory to enable us to operate inside the trailer without disturbances. We will be doing further tests on future outings to see if it produces any noise on the bands along with the computers we are running. Keep watching for updates. Paul.

You guys mean business with a genny that size! One thing I've found from regular caravanning is that even the screws vibrate loose in transit!! Drawers in caravans are either held shut with a locking catch or there's a magnet at the rear of the drawer which hold it tight the cabinet.
