Thank you Matt for the work you have put into these videos. They have been really useful and informative. I am doing the Larapinta in April/May 2024 over 17 days, and having seem your videos, I think I will broadly follow this itinerary with a few shorter days thrown in, or a rest day. I’ll be filmng as well, so you will see how I got on once I have pulled it all together.

I don't have those numbers and sold the camper many years ago. It needed a 6 foot tray.

@TrailsTrailsTrails this one. You are correct about 3 weeks on the refrigerator by itself. If I use the heater nightly plus the refrigerator, the propane lasts 7 days. I just got back from a 3 month road trip in it. I've been l ots of places and in different weather conditions. 53 mph winds with the top latched down tight and me in it. It's very scary. I have stayed in the mountains at 32 degrees, and the heater is still useful. My girlfriend and I have stayed in it together. It's pretty small for two but definitely works. We were at outside events all day. I bought the pop-up so I can go deeper in the mountains when I want to. It's very light for my truck. Nissan Titan. I've used my camper most of the time I've owned it. If the weather gets too windy or pouring rain, I put the top down until it passes. The storage space is great. I might upgrade to a newer popup because the new ones are really nice. This one is still working fine for now.

Hi Matt, I love all your video's on the Larapinta trail but can you tel me what cameras do you use ?
@TrailsTrailsTrails2 жыл бұрын
On this trail I used my Sony a6100 with only the stock 16-50mm lens (my better lens broke just before the trip). I used no tripod. For current videos I use the same Sony a6100 but with the super wide SEL1018. I use a Manfrotto Befree Carbon Fiber Tripod but that might be overkill for you. I'm considering a great camera phone (e.g. Pixel 4 and up) with a gimba

if carrying lightweight foods (dehydrated meals, rice, oats, trail mix etc) would it be possible/realistic to carry 12-14 days worth of food on yourself (my pack is around 60l or so)
@TrailsTrailsTrails3 жыл бұрын
Yes but that will add 4-7 kg to your pack. That doesn't sound like a lot but the difference between 20 and 27 kg is massive. Depends how tight your budget is and how much you're willing to spend on comfort. If you can do the food drops yourself then the key to the sheds was only $10. Because I enjoy sleeping in scenic and quiet locations I often carried another 5kg of water for 1-2 hours.

Great overview of this model and year. Thanks for keeping this video available. I just purchased one in great shape (same year) off Reno Craigslist. Love the low profile for traveling, not too hard for a solo retired lady to set up & take down (using a step ladder & going slowly), 3-way fridge is awesome, stove & sink are nice conveniences (haven’t tried the heater yet) and I love not having to deal with a black water tank. It provides most of the “luxuries” of a basic rv without losing the charm /flavor of real camping. Mine didn’t come with stairs but I got a Little Giant 3-step collapsible ladder (great tip from another KZbinr) which I use for entry as well as setup/takedown.

Is this camper rated for winter camping ?
@TrailsTrailsTrails4 жыл бұрын
Is there an official rating because I'm not aware. From personal experience I'd say you can use it below freezing as it has a heater but because the top is canvas I wouldn't want to do that for longer periods of time.

Looks like an incredible area. Seems like you would need to carry in quite a bit of water, especially if you were planning a multi day trip.
@TrailsTrailsTrails4 жыл бұрын
It sure is amazing! All the major camping sites have tank water. If you wanted to camp in more scenic locations which are less crowded you'd need to carry water from the last camp. That's usually just a few hours for the evening, morning and walk to the next camp. Well worth it IMO.

Thank you! If you need to set up and take down every day it becomes a bit annoying. I would have preferred a permanent setup but this is better driving in windy conditions, for fuel and if you drive under low branches a lot. I never got this 100% bug proof (and I tried!) and camping in windy, exposed spots can be a problem, too.
